After receiving appreciation from expert practitioners from industry, the Gemara Pop Up Book received appreciation from the Academic Directorate of Vocational Higher Education (APTV) of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Technology. Monday—Tuesday (16—17/12/2024) this illustrated children's story book product inspired by the Boyo Putih oral tradition was exhibited at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology's Higher Education Building, Senayan Complex, Jakarta. This innovation product exhibition is part of a series of Dissemination and Appreciation events for Vocational Higher Education People in Indonesia which was attended by the Minister of Education and Technology, Prof. Satryo Soemantri. Since pre-launching on December 10 2024, the children's book "Bino and the Mangrove Forest" has sold seven copies both from offline sales and pre-orders through online marketing.
Gemara Pop Up Book was selected as one of the seven products of the Entrepreneurial Merdeka Campus (WMK) program from all vocational universities organizing WMK. The children's book product prototype, which had previously been incubated at the Surabaya State Shipping Polytechnic (PPNS) Business Incubator for four months, was deemed worthy of exhibition because Timini not only had a solid business idea, but also demonstrated commitment, hard work and adaptability throughout the program. Harmonious collaboration between students and Field Assistant Lecturers (DPL) succeeded in creating stunning results.
Danis Maulana, S.T., M.BA., Chair of the WMK PPNS Program, assesses that this team is a real representation of how synergy between students, DPL, and vocational education can produce innovative solutions that have a real impact on the surrounding community and economy, especially Surabaya. Previously, at the Project Based Learning Technopreneurship (PBLT) Demo Day held at Grha Dewaruci PPNS on 11 December 2024, Gemara was selected as the WMK team with the Most Creative Marketing. “They are able to present marketing strategies that are innovative and relevant to the target market. The students in this team demonstrated extraordinary creativity by utilizing digital media effectively and creating a personal and interactive marketing approach. "This cannot be separated from DPL's intensive guidance, which plays an important role in providing strategic direction and helping students develop their best potential," said the lecturer who is also the Head of the PPNS Business Incubator.
Agnes Veronica Sungkono, one of the 2021 Vocational Faculty Graphic Design students who is part of the Gemara team, admitted that following the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) WMK program policy for 4 months was an extraordinary experience full of learning for her. "Together with my team, I developed a business idea for children's story books with pop-up features about mangrove forests—starting from research, prototyping, to marketing strategy. During demo day, our work won the title of most creative marketing, which is a big motivation for us to continue working. The highlight of this trip was when we had the opportunity to exhibit and market our products at the Ministry of Education and Technology's Vocational Expo in Jakarta. The direct interaction with visitors and the appreciation we received was a very proud experience. "The WMK program really opens up our horizons, sharpens our skills, expands our relationships, and provides great opportunities for us to develop," he said after the exhibition.
Bayu Dwi Nurwicaksono, DPL Gemara team said he was proud of the achievements of the students under his guidance. "I just sparked the idea at the beginning that in the Wonorejo area there is a tradition in the form of stories told from generation to generation about white crocodiles, there is even a Boyo Putih grave there. "Furthermore, students are the ones who explore ideas, deepen ideas, and execute them in the form of interesting stories and illustrations, as well as creating educational figures in the natural environment of mangrove forests as education for abrasion disaster mitigation," explained the lecturer who received the title of Most Inspirational DPL.
