Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Three students from the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) passed the Nagoya University Program of Academic Exchange (NUPACE) scholarship program and had the opportunity to study one semester at Nagoya University, Japan. The three students left for Nagoya and were immediately released from the leadership and the Office of International Affairs (KUI) UNESA on April 18, 2022.
The students who went to the Land of the Rising Sun were Lintang Novitasari, Dinda Ayu Pratiwi and Cynthia Lailanisa Soegiono. They are students of the S-1 English Literature study program, Faculty of Language and Arts (FBS). According to schedule, they should have left for Nagoya from the start of the program. However, due to the pandemic, the program was run online and April was only able to depart.
From Nagoya, Lintang Novitasari, one of the three students, said on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, that there were quite a lot of applicants for the scholarship program. The registrants come from various campuses in the country. However, only three participants passed and all three were from UNESA. “I am grateful to have this opportunity for this program. Of course, my friends and I will take advantage of this opportunity as much as possible,” he said by telephone.
It is not easy to be accepted into the NUPACE program. There are a number of requirements that must be met, one of which is Japanese and English. Lintang himself initially admitted that he was overwhelmed learning Japanese. However, thanks to the motivation and support from his family, parents, lecturers and friends, he continued to study until he was able to and finally had the opportunity to study at one of the best campuses in the State of Sakura.
Lintang told about her experience in Japan. There, it turns out that certain 'restrictions' are still applied to immigrants from abroad. Lintang and his friends are required to quarantine or self-isolate for a few days in one of the hotels prepared by the local authorities.
According to him, the lecture system in Japan is not much different from that in Indonesia. It's just that most campuses in the country of Sakura tend to emphasize the literacy system, sharing sessions, and public speaking to their students. "However, in character, there are indeed slight differences, for example, discipline is very important there," he explained.
The woman from Blitar who is also a daughter of UNESA shared tips or what students must prepare to be accepted into the NUPACE program:
1) S1 or Postgraduate students are active at Unesa
2) Minimum GPA 3.0 out of 4.0
3) Minimum English Proficiency Level B2 (TOEFL ITP 550, TOEFL iBT 79, or IELTS 6.0) - waived for Students from the Department of English.
4) Minimum Japanese Proficiency Level N1 - for those who wish to take Japanese courses
5) Receive a Letter of Recommendation from OIA Unesa
For him, there are 4 points that must be done for a student who wants to take a scholarship program abroad, including prepare, practice, pray, and performance. “I really hope to add experience, relationships, mentality, and skills in overseas processes through this program. I want to be a person who is more developed in the struggle to support a career,” he said. [UNESA PR]
