UNESA Vocational Graphic Design students' visit to the children's book creative industry.
UNESA.ac.id. SURABAYA--Ten UNESA Vocational Graphic Design students visited the children's book creative industry, on Tuesday (12/11/2024). This industrial visit is part of the immersion stage of the Independent Student Entrepreneurship (WMK) program.
In this activity, students carried out product reference studies at Ideokids' house, PT Semesta Raya Ideo office, in Sidoarjo. The students did not waste this opportunity to discuss the creative process of designing children's books with Watiek Ideo.
The discussion was lively and students seemed enthusiastic about listening to the experience sharing session delivered by Mrs. Watiek as an expert practitioner in the field of children's book publishing. This children's book writer, who has been working as a children's book writer for 14 years, appreciates the prototypes produced by students.
"Even though the prototype of this children's book product is not 100% finished, the story and sketches are ready, it's really good! The writing is neat, the flow and logic of the story is smooth. I only have one input, supporting media such as flash cards, merchandise , and social media needs to be activated," said the writer who received the Indonesian Culture Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2023.
Hearing feedback from expert practitioners, the students looked happy. The power and efforts that students have made over the last 2 months have received positive assessments from expert practitioners.
After this immersion stage, students will enter the post-immersion stage where the activity is in the form of market testing. The students' products will later be assessed by Ideokids resellers spread throughout Indonesia, potential customers (parents), and also potential consumers of children aged 7-9 years who are the target readers of this children's book.
Naila Nabilatul Husna, head of group 46 of WMK 2024, explained that the idea for making this children's book started from the provisions of the study program that this semester tourism would be a learning theme.
"From there we thought, which tourist areas in Surabaya would be interesting to highlight. During brainstorming, the Wonorejo Mangrove Forest on the East Coast of Surabaya emerged as an observation location. One day we explored the mangrove forest, its condition It is quite worrying, many areas are poorly maintained and very quiet.
In fact, this mangrove forest can be a means of abrasion mitigation education for parents to introduce the importance of mangrove forests to children.
Moreover, the ecosystem in this mangrove forest is very diverse, suitable for introducing unique animals and plants such as mangroves which have respiratory roots that rise above the water surface," said the 2021 UNESA Vocational Graphic Design student.
Furthermore, he explained that in making this children's book, research was the main thing. The Legend of Boyo Putih was part of oral tradition research which was a deepening of students' ideas under the guidance of the Field Assistant Lecturer, Mr Bayu Dwi. Nurwicaksono. The project based learning concept that realizes the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) policy involves many parties, including coaches from the Surabaya State Shipping Polytechnic Business Incubator (PPNS).
In fact, before the demo day in mid-December, the WMK participating students will also be asked to return to the UNESA campus to get input and suggestions from Mr and Mrs Graphic Design lecturers at the UNESA Vocational Faculty.[*]< /p>
