Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA --The Surabaya State University (UNESA) FLY-RG team again won the 2024 regional Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI). The 'Home of the Champions' campus team won 1st place in the Vertical Take Off Landing (VTOL) division in the competition which will take place online on 12-16 August 2024.
The FLY-RG team is part of Dewo Robotic FT UNESA, a student organization that focuses on developing robotic technology. They have made various thorough preparations, from design, development, to intensive testing to ensure that the robot they create is able to compete at the national level.
Parama Diptya Widayaka, FLY-RG supervisor, said that this achievement was not a first for FLY-RG. In 2023, they also won 1st place in KRTI region 2 and 2nd place in national KRTI. "Alhamdulillah, months of struggle and preparation were not in vain. This victory is the result of hard work and dedication of all team members," he said.
Jeremia Shema Tanugraha, team leader FLY-RG, revealed that preparations for this year's KRTI national contest presented their own challenges. Preparation, especially in finding the optimal place to test their flying robot. According to him, finding a location is quite challenging because it has to be right to carry out the trial.
"We are trying to find a room that is large enough so that there are no time and place limitations for conducting the trial "With adequate space, we can carry out testing more intensively and get maximum results," explained Jeremiah.
Apart from that, the FLY-RG team made a number of improvements based on evaluations from the previous year's competition. They are focused on improving the image processing capabilities of their drones and improving the pickup and payload dropping systems.
The team continues to evaluate and adjustments from last year's experience. This year, he hopes to win 1st place by improving drone capabilities, especially in terms of image processing and a more accurate and efficient pickup-drop system.
He is confident that with the improvements that have been made, FLY-RG will be able to achieve the expected targets. They also want to give the best for UNESA and prove that the team's hard work has not been in vain.
Muhamad Syariffuddien Zuhrie, Dewo Robotic coordinator lecturer, said that this success is not the end of FLY-RG's journey. The next challenge is facing competition at the national level. "Next, FLY-RG will head to KRTI at the national level. We are optimistic that, with thorough preparation, the team will again achieve the best results," he said optimistically.
Not only the FLY-RG team, Syarif also revealed his pride in the three other teams from UNESA who managed to qualify for the national level. There were three other teams that also managed to qualify, namely Golden Eagle Art in the racing plane division, the Devanagari team in the fixed wing division, and the Gatotkaca team in the Long Endurance Low division Altitude.
This success shows that UNESA has great potential in the field of robotics and continues to strive to improve quality and achievements in every competition. He hopes that all the teams that qualify for the national level can give their best and bring UNESA's good name to this prestigious event. []
