Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—In order to strengthen international recognition, Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a workshop on "Strategy to Improve UNESA's Ranking towards WCU through the Equity Program" at the Aston Conference Center on 14-15 August 2023.
Junaidi Budi Prihanto, S.KM., M.KM., Ph.D., Deputy Chancellor for Research, Community Service, Innovation, Publication, and University Rankings explained that this activity was UNESA's preparation in the Enhancing Quality Education for International University Recognition (Equity) program.
Equity is a program under the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology prepared to improve the quality and quality of higher education in Indonesia so that it becomes a first-class university world (WCU) through the Higher Education Endowment Fund Program.
“As a PTN-BH, UNESA must focus on increasing its international reputation. So that the use of these funds is in line with increasing the quality and efficiency of international standard tridharma, which will support the development of WCU," he said.
He said, increasing international reputation requires extensive networks to facilitate faster exchange of information, as well as contribute to advancing collaboration and innovation. "We need to build a broad network for the long term," he said.
Prof. Nadi Suprapto, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., Director of Innovation in Ranking and Scientific Publications, said that the intended realization was a follow-up to cooperation such as collaboration in research, student mobility, student exchanges, and many others.
He explained, the EQUITY program has 15 main programs that involve all fields at UNESA. The UNESA improvement program as a WCU uses references from two world ranking agencies, namely the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) or Times Higher Education (THE).
In enhancing international reputation, UNESA targets increasing the mobility of international students who one of the indicators is the number of publications in a tertiary institution, especially the mobility of inbound students to UNESA.
“We are preparing a strategy that does not yet exist on other campuses in addition to increasing research collaboration internationally which is consistent because it has an important effect on rankings,” he explained.
Not only that, UNESA's participation in ranking agency activities is also another indicator. Participation in these activities is also an arena for international branding with universities in other countries.
"If UNESA has strong international branding, it will affect survey indicators related to how big the influence of universities is globally," he concluded. This activity was attended by leaders and officials related to the UNESA environment. [*]
