Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—In preparation for welcoming students of the Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG), the Institute for Professional Education and Certification (LPSP) Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a Prajab PPG Coordination Meeting at the Mercure Hotel on 9- 10 September 2023.
Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., Chancellor of UNESA was also present on that occasion. Cak Hasan said that in this era of disruption, the role of teachers faces many significant changes and challenges. Students now not only learn from sources like Google, but also increasingly rely on artificial intelligence or AI features to help them complete assignments.
“Prospective teachers must continue to innovate and develop skills to remain competitive in this increasingly developing world of education. "The teacher's job is not only to teach, but to educate, that's what AI cannot do," he stressed.
The Chancellor emphasized the importance of anticipating change, because hundreds of jobs in the education sector have the potential to be replaced by AI. PPG students need constant adaptation and development of innovation to become competent educators.
PPG Looks at Regions
Drs. Fatkur Rohman Kafrawi, M.Pd., Head of the PPG Center, in his report explained that the number of new PPG Prajab students in the first batch of 2023 is 1,099 who are scheduled to attend offline. "PPG at UNESA is being looked at by many regions, one of which is Ponorogo, where yesterday after PPL was asked to become a teacher there," he concluded.
This year, PPG added several new study programs (Prodi), to increase the variety educational competencies offered. There are 20 study programs offered this year, previously there were only 14 study programs.
In addition, PPG has increased the number of classes available. Initially, PPG only had 22 classes. However, in an effort to Accommodating the increase in quota given by the ministry, there are now 47 classes available.
This Year's Breakthrough
Dr. Julianto, S.Pd., M.Pd., PPG Secretary and speaker at this activity explained the need for a unified perception of preparations for implementing PPG this year. The reason is that there is several system changes and improvements to the program. "This year the implementation of PPG lectures will be carried out in a hybrid manner, considering that there are still 2 times as many In-Service PPGs (Daljab) which we will receive next week," he explained.
Answering these needs , UNESA uses a learning system such as a canvas-based Learning Management System (LMS) with several updated features. This LMS was developed by the Ministry of Education and Culture's GTK team. There are also additional staff such as admins in class management from 9 admins to 19 admins.
"This year there are elective courses in accordance with our (UNESA; ed) excellence in the field of sports and disabilities. "There is fitness certification in semester 1 and inclusive education in semester 2. This certification will start in 2022 and will be a distinct advantage for PPG UNESA graduates," he explained.
