Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-PT INKA (Persero) cooperates with the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) in the development of environmentally friendly, intelligent and sustainable transportation in Indonesia. The collaboration was marked by the signing of a collaboration between the Director of Development of PT INKA with the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and the Head of Mechanical Engineering, UNESA who was accompanied by the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Cooperation at the 11th Floor Auditorium of the Rectorate Building, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. .
Cooperation Scheme
There are five cooperation schemes that can be carried out in the future. First, research collaboration. The budget for this scheme can come from INKA and universities or it can also work together by sending proposals to LPDP, UNESA partners abroad and others. Second, institutional cooperation which can be in the form of transportation business studies and transportation business transformation studies.
Then, thirdly, professional cooperation which consists of two kinds, can be in the form of freelancers and can also be in the form of experts. "Later UNESA can send experts to us (PT INKA, ed) in the development of certain fields," said Ir. Agung Sedaju, M.T., Development Director of PT INKA.
Fourth, educational collaborations that can be carried out in the form of certified independent internships and studies, certified student internships and the implementation of D-4 in Railways. Fifth, cooperation in product utilization. In this case, UNESA becomes the industrial arm. “If there is a product produced by UNESA, we will buy the product. Certainly as an industry we see it from three points; better, faster and cheaper,” he said.
Transport Project
He continued, currently the Railway Industry is transforming towards environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation manufacturing. This is manifested in various projects, including the development of hybrid trains or trains with a combined diesel and electric power. “We really hope that a UNESA team will join us to research in this area. UNESA is not alone, there will also be other campus teams such as UGM, ITB, ITS and Pens to solve this problem," he explained.
In addition to hybrid trains, the industry, which is part of the BUMN, is also producing electric buses. Currently, the domestic component level (TKDN) for electric buses has only reached 40 percent. Meanwhile, the targeted TKDN is 70 percent. This can be achieved through collaboration with universities.
The next INKA project is the development of a 'smart' train or train control and monitoring system (TCMS). Currently, they can control the train, but the hardware is still dependent on foreign parties. Therefore, INKA is currently developing the hardware. If it has been successfully made in Indonesia, then the sub-software must also be built in Indonesia. For this reason, INKA requires a lot of resources and collaborates with various parties.
"In addition, we also have several other projects, such as the KCL electric train, developing a modular cabin system, autonomous mass transit (AMT), combined terminal tractor (CTT) and mining vehicles. We hope that many human resources from UNESA will join and jointly develop the future of transportation and in answering other transportation problems, "said Agung Sedaju.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Cooperation, Dr. Sujarwanto, M.Pd., said that UNESA is ready to synergize with PT INKA in realizing smart, environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation in Indonesia. According to him, this collaboration is very strategic and UNESA must take part in it either through research, internships, experts and so on.
This is not the first time UNESA has collaborated with INKA. Previously, the two of them also collaborated in improving the skills of inmates at Madiun Prison. “This collaboration is very important in improving human resources, and is also the 6th KPI of universities that have been set and mandated by Dikti. This is a great collaboration for the benefit of society and the nation in the future, hopefully this synergy will run smoothly and as expected," said Sujarwanto.
The event to strengthen cooperation is part of the series of UNESA's 58th Anniversary which is packaged in the form of a roadshow; PT INKA goes to campus. The activity was attended by the ranks of planning and cooperation fields, leaders of faculties, departments and study programs around UNESA. In addition, PT INKA was attended by the development directors and organizational development managers. [UNESA PR]
