This event will be held online on September 2, 2021 via the Zoom platform.
The Jungle School with the name Sekola Institute which was initiated by Butet Manurung has a privilege compared to schools in general, because it is the first institution in Indonesia that focuses on indigenous peoples education and has now reached 17 locations in various regions of Indonesia, such as Sokola Neuheun, Sokola Lamno, Sokola Asmat, Ijo School and others.

"There are 4 stages in the development of this school, the first is basic by doing research on learning before applying learning, secondly applied which includes internal (from traditional elders) and external knowledge with our involvement to adjust the research stage to the needs needed according to the basic stage then the last is advocacy and organizing where we are about organizations and how communities can work to tell how they get their rights as citizens and society. Like how to access hospitals, which has been an obstacle due to ignorance of access,” said Butet.
In the zoom meeting which was attended by more than 200 people, he also instilled a message for PPKN Unesa students who in the future will become the nation's teachers not to give up easily in facing every challenge when presenting learning innovations. “Initially my motivation was adventure and I thought that this was my dream. In the past, I often packed my backpack to go home because I was evicted but every time I came home I always had doubts and believed that this was my dream, my passion, so my heart was moved to back," he said.
In the beginning my motivation was adventure and this is my goal.
I used to often pack my backpack to go home because I was evicted. But every time I go home I feel doubtful because this is my dream, my passion. If I go home and give up I'm sure I'll regret it later. So I'm back again. At first there were often conflicts because of suspicion but always my heart returned
The PPKN lecturer, Imam Purba also agreed about the suitability of the Jungle School concept with the principle of Free Learning, "That education must be adapted to the needs and diversity of each student," he concluded. (UNESA PR)
