
Opening ceremony for East Java Provincial Women's Sports Week (Porwaprov) #1 at UNESA.
Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—East Java Provincial Women's Sports Week (Porwaprov) #1 is starting to roll out. The opening of this inaugural competition took place at the Surabaya State University (UNESA) Basketball Gymnasium, Lidah Wetan Campus II, on Friday, December 6 2024.
This competition was organized by the Provincial Management (Pengprov) of the All Indonesian Sports Women's Association (Perwosi) Java East which collaborates with the 'Home of Champions' campus which is attended by around 746 athletes and 193 coaches from 35 districts and cities.
They competed in seven sports, namely volleyball, gymnastics, athletics, wushu and petanque, as well as 2 independent sports, namely softball and woodball.
Porwaprov was opened by the Acting Governor of East Java, Adhy Karyono together with the Chair of the East Java KONI, Muhammad Nabil; Chairman of Perwosi East Java, Arumi Bachsin and (accompanied by) Emil Elestianto Dardak; as well as the Chair of 2 East Java Perwosi and Chair of the UNESA DWP, Endah Purnomowati Nurhasan.

The Acting Governor of East Java gave a speech at the opening of East Java Prowaprov #1.
In his speech, the Acting Governor of East Java said Porwaprov was a historical milestone for the development and strengthening of women's sports in the country. This competition further shows the contribution of East Java Perwosi in empowering women while improving the quality of sports achievements.
"Happy competing achievements, live it with sportsmanship, prioritize mutual understanding as friends and fellow athletes, in order to improve the quality and achievements of East Java female athletes," said Adhy Karyono.
Chairman of Perwosi East Java, Arumi Bachsin, explained that this Porwaprov was the first event held by Perwosi, and was made possible by the initiation of various parties, including the East Java Dispora, East Java KONI, as well as full support from the East Java Provincial Government and UNESA.
This sports week is a step strategic to contribute to attracting quality female athletes, as well as growing public interest in sports, especially among women.
"I have high hopes that this event will be well received by the community so that there will be a second, third and so on Porwaprov in the future," he said enthusiastically.
Chairman of East Java KONI, Muhammad Nabil appreciated for holding Porwaprov as the first women's sports competition in Indonesia.
"Hopefully other provinces will also adopt this activity, considering that Porwaprov provides a platform for women to express their sporting abilities," he said

Delegation representatives from Kediri Regency attended the opening along with hundreds of athletes and coaches from other district and city delegations.
Deputy Chairperson 2 Perwosi East Java, Endah Purnomowati Nurhasan said that this activity was a collaboration of all parties, one of which was UNESA as the center of gravity in the field of sports in Indonesia.
UNESA apart from supporting the place as a venue for the sport being competed in, also mobilized around 700 students who were involved in making the competition a success.The Chair of the UNESA DWP hopes that Porwaprov #1 East Java 2024 can be a successful event and produce outstanding female athletes who will make East Java proud on the national stage and Indonesia on the world stage.[*]
