Blind participants undergo selection interviews for new student admissions for the independent pathway for the disability group at Surabaya State University (UNESA).
Unesa. ac.id., SURABAYA—A total of 49 participants with disabilities from various regions registered for the Special Disability Admissions Scheme at the Mandiri State University of Surabaya (UNESA). Registration for this route closed on July 14 2024.
Applicants underwent selection in the form of an offline interview test in the Meeting Room, 1st floor of the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences (FIKK) Building, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Surabaya on Wednesday, June 19 2024.
This selection process was directly reviewed by Dr. Martadi, M.Sn., Deputy Chancellor IV for Planning, Development, Cooperation and Information and Communication Technology at UNESA who ensured the smooth running of the selection.
Head of Sub-Directorate for Student Admissions and Graduation at UNESA, Dr. Sukarmin, M.Pd., said that disability pathway participants underwent a selection interview with the UNESA team which consisted of various elements, namely the psychology team, academic team and disability services team.
The selection team measured a number of aspects such as ability participants' academics and predicted ability to attend lectures according to the chosen study program, motivation to study and endurance in studying, and the potential they have and will develop during college.
"Enthusiasm of participants with disabilities to study at UNESA "There are quite high numbers of people who are physically disabled, mentally retarded, blind and deaf. They register in various study programs offered by UNESA," he said. . For this reason, an accompanying team and a number of necessary communication aids were prepared at the selection location.
The results of the disability pathway selection were announced on Saturday, June 22 2024. Of the 49 applicants, 29 participants were declared to have passed.
Vice Chancellor IV UNESA said that UNESA's enthusiasm for opening disability pathways is to provide opportunities for people with disabilities who have high enthusiasm and potential to study further in higher education.
"When our younger siblings are "If these people with disabilities are given the opportunity to study at tertiary institutions, we are sure that they will be able to innovate to handle the real problems faced by people with disabilities properly," he said.
As the UNESA Chancellor's message, he continued, for participants who pass the pathway with disabilities at UNESA is free of single tuition fees or UKT and SPI (institutional development contribution). In other words, participants who pass the disability pathway will not be charged UKT and SPI fees, aka free tuition.
"With this policy, we hope that prospective new students with disabilities will be more enthusiastic about learning and developing their potential with UNESA," he said. []
