Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-The Center for Ideology Development, Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) State University of Surabaya held a National Webinar on Nationality on Thursday (17/06/2021). The event, which was broadcast live on Unesa's Official Youtube channel, involved students from Papua and other students who took part online.
The event was titled 'National Insights: Potential of Papuan Students in the Future'. Director of Belmawa, Kemendikbudristek, Prof. drh, Aris Junaidi, Ph. D on that occasion said that the government continues to do many ways to improve the quality of the nation's human resources throughout Indonesia. The goal is to produce superior Indonesian human resources who have global competence and behave in accordance with the values of Pancasila.
For that purpose, the government even provides many educational programs and scholarships. One of them is the Education Affirmation Program (ADiK). The ADiK program is a scholarship from the government to create superior human resources and provide learning opportunities for students due to conditions and affordability who have difficulty accessing education at the tertiary level. "The targets are students from the 3T area, Papua, West Papua and other areas," he explained.
The scholarship program which has been running since 2012 has a fairly high number of scholarship recipients. Unesa is one of the universities that is committed to encouraging the ADiK program. Various routine trainings and briefings are carried out as a form of increasing student potential such as entrepreneurship training, character education and national insight and so on.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni, Dr. Agus Hariyanto, M. Kes stated that Unesa has a role and responsibility in increasing the potential of the younger generation as well as reviving the values of diversity to welcome a golden Indonesia.
According to Agus, the principle of the Indonesian nation in achieving national goals can be described in three ways. First, sacrifice by prioritizing common interests above personal or group interests. Second, equality without discrimination. And third, kinship by establishing harmonious relationships among each other. "This is in line with the Unesa One Step Di Depan jargon, which is committed to taking part in caring for, encouraging innovation, and increasing the potential of Indonesia's young generation," he added.
Ruben Simunapendi, one of the Papuan leaders in East Java also conveyed his reflection on the success of Papuan human resources which he said can be seen in the field of education. "Papuan HR must have broad insight and knowledge and explore a lot of knowledge that will be useful for Papua in the future. This is proven by the large number of Papuan young people who are pursuing higher education, especially in East Java and the future of Papua is in their hands," he explained .
On that occasion, Pastor GPDI Lahai Roi Surabaya advised Papuan students to make the best use of their time while studying, so that later they could advance the nation and state, especially the Papua region. (meds)
