Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Students from various countries studying at UNESA are involved in the International Cultural Festival (ICF) 2023 which is being held by the UNESA Office of International Affairs (KUI) or Office of International Affairs (OIA) in the Rector's yard, Lidah Wetan Campus on Saturday (2/9/2023).
Apart from studying at UNESA, there are also foreign students studying at other tertiary institutions who are also demonstrating their country's culture. They came from South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, India, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Uganda, Timor-Leste, Madagascar, Thailand, the Philippines to China. their respective countries. Like students from Myanmar, for example, who on that occasion presented a distinctive dance that is often performed at important events in their country.
Chit Thet Mon Khin, a representative from Myanmar said, the dance he performed was usually performed when welcoming foreign tourists . The clothes she wears are pink with strands of white cloth that hang down from her knees to the ground.
The rose decoration pinned on her head also adds to the charming impression of the dance which tells about the struggle of true love and sacrifice in one legend of Myanmar.
Participants from the Philippines also presented a show that was no less interesting. They performed the Waray Waray Dance. Mary Jane B.CNW, a member of the Filipino troupe said that the dance they performed told about the life of the Filipino people in cultural diversity; music, architecture, to traditional games.
This dance, which is performed in pairs of men and women, managed to attract the attention of the audience thanks to the cheerful and compact music and movements. They not only danced, they also invited the audience to shake their bodies to follow their movements.
Indonesian arts also showed off at the cultural festival. This time, Indonesian art was presented by Unesa Labschool students. They performed the Remo dance and the Lintang Sorote dance.
Global Cultural Exploration
Vice Chancellor for Planning, Development, Cooperation, and Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Siti Nur Azizah, S.H., M.Hum., was also present on the occasion. He said, this event presents a harmonious and inclusive relationship between countries, especially in education.
He hopes that the ICF will become an annual event starting this year. The enthusiasm is to be able to promote culture that departs from student exchange programs, summer camps, so that we can learn about culture between countries, be it traditions, art, music, even culinary.
Apart from that, to explore and showcase cultural diversity . Also, it becomes a place to explore global culture. Representative students from their respective countries display various customs and traditions, of course they are proud of themselves and knowledge for others.
ICF 2023 is UNESA's commitment to support the integration of international students or students while ensuring foreign students feel comfortable studying at UNESA and feel at home living in Surabaya.
"This event is an extraordinary collaboration event across national borders. It can also be a magnet for other foreign students to come and study at UNESA. At the same time, this is to strengthen OIA's position as UNESA's window in the eyes of the world," he said. able to provide insight and understanding to young people so they can see existing diversity as an opportunity to develop the country.
In addition, the ICF presents various series of events. There was a cultural parade, a youth community talk show, a national cultural performance, there was a language and culture booth, an MSME booth, a youth community and there were interactive activity booths from various countries.
