Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-In the midst of the tight selection to enter state universities, many schools from various regions visited the STATE UNIVERSITY OF SURABAYA (UNESA). SMAN 1 Kenduruan, Tuban is one of them. A total of 110 students of class XI science and social studies accompanied by 20 teachers visited and were welcomed by the UNESA Admissions Unit on the 9th floor of the LP3M Building, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya yesterday (Wednesday, 15/6/2022).
Deputy Head of SMAN 1 Kenduruan, Muhammad Ali Nasudin Basar conveyed the purpose and objectives of the visit, one of which was to motivate students to be enthusiastic about learning and take education up to university level. “By seeing firsthand the condition of the campus and explanations from UNESA, we hope that our students will be more enthusiastic about learning. Then also to get information on the admission route, selection and terms and conditions," he explained.
Head of the UNESA Admissions Unit, Dr. Sukarmin, M.Pd., stated that every year, UNESA has three new student admission routes. There are SNMPTN, SBMPTN and SPMB or independent paths. Two pathways have been implemented, namely SNMPTN and SBMPTN, now entering the acceptance stage on the independent pathway.
This year's independent pathway, UNESA opened several groups of admission pathways; First, the Non-Test group. The group of non-test pathways consists of the national UTBK pathway. This pathway is intended for participants who already have UTBK 2022 scores. In other words, this pathway only uses UTBK scores and there are no more tests or exams. Participants may choose two study programs, both Science and Technology and Social Sciences.

Second, the achievement group is intended for participants who have achievements in a number of fields. This achievement path consists of; 1) religious achievements (Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism). There are Islamic religious achievements through the pesantren, tahfidz and MTQ routes. 2) sports achievements, 3) artistic achievements, and 4) leadership achievements.
Third, TMUBK Bachelor and Applied Bachelor. This pathway uses the computer-based UNESA entrance test (TMUBK). This type of written test is computer-based. Fourth, the disability pathway which is intended for participants with disabilities.
This year, the number of applicants at UNESA has increased. It affects the tightness of study programs in each faculty. In the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) the S-1 Mathematics Education study program is ranked 1st with a registrant tightness ratio in 2021 of 1:12, which means that out of 12 applicants who qualify for the S-1 Mathematics Education study program, only 1 student.
“Many students are smart and rank 1,2,3 in their school. But did not pass to enter the PTN. The reason is not because they are not smart, but they have the wrong strategy in determining the study program," said Sukarmin.
Not to forget, he reminded students to continue to improve the quality of learning and worship, both obligatory and sunnah, including fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, tahajjud prayer, praying at efficacious times and many more. “Don't underestimate spiritual worship, because we don't know from these services there are things that we don't expect. For example, from high school students whose grades are mediocre, but pass to PTN," he said.
Mochamad Arifin, S.Pd., M.Pd. convey a strategy to determine the right study program for prospective students, namely: 1) recognizing one's own potential, 2) adjusting it to report cards, 3) finding out the capacity of the study program of interest, 4) seeing school accreditation, 5) diligently practicing answering college entrance test questions.
