Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-It must be admitted that the literacy level in Indonesia needs to be improved again. The government cannot do it alone, of course, but it also needs to be supported by all parties. In order to improve literacy in schools, UNESA students designed the Aksaranesia.Co application and passed the 2021 Student Creativity Week (PKM).
Aksaranesia.Co was born from the hands of Cahyo Febri Wijaksono from S-1 Education Management, Shela Dwi Widhya Sari from S-1 Education Management, Achmad Adil Ma'sum S-1 Visual Communication Design, Cyntia Putri S-1 Education in Indonesian Language and Literature and Aulia Dwi Saputri S-1 Information Systems. They were guided by Aditya Chandra Setiawan, S.Pd., M.Pd.
The PKM project with the title 'Aksaranesia.Co Application to Support the School Literacy Movement for Students of SMA Negeri 1 Waru Sidoarjo' was specially designed based on Android. The goal is to serve as a forum for the school literacy movement (GLS).
Cahyo Febri Wijaksono said that on the main page of the application, there is a student profile display with features to write short statuses, save reading lists, and publish stories.
He continued, regarding the monitoring process carried out with a point collection system. "After reading a book on Aksaranesia.co, students get points for their literacy activities," explained Cahyo.
If students finish reading books in the Aksaranesia.co library, they will get points. Meanwhile, students who also participate in writing will also get points. Later, these points can be used as a measuring tool for GLS graduation. In addition, Aksaranesia.co also holds awarding at the end of each semester for the owner of the most points.
According to him, the application is able to move the literacy culture in schools. The important basis of literacy is reading and writing. By mobilizing students, educators and education staff to read and write, by itself it will have an impact on the literacy culture in schools and communities.
In addition, the era of the Industrial revolution 4.0 also demands that teachers not only read and write but also have the ability in digital literacy which in the policy of free learning and independent campuses gets a fairly important portion. Therefore, through this application, teachers can also increase awareness of digital literacy.
“The need for digital-based media is important, and this application supports the School Literacy Movement to be able to adapt to the times. Aksaranesia.co is expected to be able to assist teachers in solving problems regarding the School Literacy Movement, so that it can continue to run well during the pandemic and in the future," he said.
