Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of the community's economy. They must continue to be encouraged through various forms of programs and activities, one of which can be through mentoring programs such as what the Surabaya State University lecturer team did to partners, MSME Laris Manis in Margorejo, Wonocolo District, Surabaya.
Laris Manis is one of the MSMEs engaged in the production of spiced soy juice drinks in the city of Surabaya. During the pandemic experienced a decline in sales and revenue figures. In order to survive and even continue to grow, strategic steps are needed both in the realm of production, management and marketing.
To increase the productivity of the MSMEs, the UNESA lecturer team consisting of Dr. Prima Retno W., M.Sc., Dr. Nuniek Herdyastuti, M.Sc., Prof. Dr. Sari Edi C, M.Sc., Dr. Amaria, M.Sc., Dr. Joko Suwito, M.Pd. and Dr. Sri Setyo Iriani, M.Sc., packaged the mentoring program in various forms of activities; there is counseling, training and delivery of machines by UNESA lecturers.
The counseling was held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the FMIPA UNESA Building, Ketintang Campus, which was attended by the MSME owners. The chairman of PKM, Prima Retno stated that one of the factors that determine the progress of MSMEs is product quality. Products that have characteristics, quality and have benefits are what customers are looking for.
The product not only prioritizes the delicious and fresh side, but also the efficacy and health side. "If the soybean juice is superior, the ingredients and the process are good, it will certainly be easy for customers to find," he said.
He also explained that soy juice has many benefits, the results of the study show that the drink can actually increase immunity. If added with spices such as ginger and cinnamon, the properties are even better for health. "These ingredients contain high antioxidants and a series of other ingredients that are good for health," he explained.
On that occasion, participants also gained knowledge about techniques for making hygienic soybean juice, attractive and competitive packaging methods, production management and business income, as well as effective and targeted marketing strategies.
Indri, the owner of Laris Manis UMKM, stated that his party was happy with the assistance program. Besides being able to improve product quality, the most important thing is that the level of product hygiene can be even better.
“I came to know which types of plastic are allowed for my products, which ones to avoid, there are many. There are many new and useful knowledge for us,” he said after attending the counseling.
In addition to the counseling, the UNESA lecturer team also designed a special machine for breaking and separating soybean skins to speed up the soybean juice production process which previously took a lot of time. With this machine, the production process is faster and the process can be carried out on a large scale. So that partners can use the machine to the maximum, UNESA lecturers previously also provided training to operate the machine.
With these various trainings and counseling, Prima Retno hopes to encourage the development and progress of Laris Manis MSMEs. The production process is getting better, the management is neat and the marketing is reaching many people. In the future, his party will continue to coordinate and provide assistance on a regular basis. "UNESA will continue to contribute to the progress of the country's MSMEs. Continue to look for innovative-based solutions with a touch of technology," he said. [UNESA PR]
