Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-International Anti-Narcotics Day (HANI) which is commemorated every June 26 should be a strengthening of the duties of the government and all stakeholders in combating narcotics trafficking which is increasingly troubling the community. Why not, data from the 2022 BNN Puslitdatin data reports that the prevalence of drug abuse in Indonesia has increased.
The prevalence rate of drug abuse in Indonesia in 2019 was 1.80 percent and increased to 1.95 percent in 2021. The risk of women being exposed to drugs in the past year has increased from 0.20 percent in 2019 to 1.21 percent in 2021. In addition, there is also an increase in drug exposure in the age group 15-24 years and 50-64 years in rural areas.
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNESA Lecturer Prof. Dr. Nuniek Herdyastuti, M.Sc., said, as the theme of HANI this year; Addressing Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crises, drugs are enemies for human survival. Drugs are a common enemy and part of the health and humanitarian crisis itself.
The high rate of drug abuse in Indonesia, he continued, is a homework that must be prioritized by all elements of the nation. The task of prevention and handling from the center to the regions and even to the countryside must be structured, reach all and be balanced. “Our job is not to inform the public about the dangers of drugs, but also to touch their awareness. I believe, drug users know very well the dangers of drugs, but are they aware or not?
The Chemistry lecturer said that drugs are really dangerous for physical and psychological health. Can reduce awareness and health, general life disturbances and even death. Morphine, one of the substances in drugs with the main content of opium is a group of alkaloids including phenanthrene derivatives that 'work' as pain relievers.
If morphine is misused it can cause addiction and result in a series of risky effects including feeling sick, irritability, tremors, lacrimation, sweating, yawning, sneezing, anorexia, mydriasis, fever, rapid breathing, vomiting, colic, diarrhea and ultimately sufferers. experience dehydration, ketosis, acidosis, cardiovascular collapse which can end in death.
It also contains methamphetamine or d-desoxyephedrine, which is a psychotropic compound with a high rate of abuse. This material can cause liver and kidney function disorders, including nerve damage to brain disorders. “The dangers of these materials when misused must be realized by all parties. This is no joke. The threat is the misery of life and death. We have to get serious about it. This is a joint task. Strengthen the ranks, increase prevention and handling measures from upstream to downstream," he said.
Ling Ling, UNESA's Anti-Drug Ambassador has the same concern over drug abuse cases in Indonesia. It was because of that anxiety that he became involved as an ambassador. He and his friends at UNESA took various anti-drug awareness movements on campus and even in the community. "Our task is to provide education and increase student awareness so that they really focus on self-development and self-competence towards a clean generation, achieving without drugs," he said.
Why do they (users, ed) not care about themselves? said Ling Ling. Trying drugs is like plunging yourself into the abyss of misery. "From the problems of life, why do you run to drugs? That's not a solution. That solves the problem with a bigger problem. In other words, the crocodile's mouth came out and instead ran into the cage of a hungry tiger. Even though there are warnings or directions to a safe exit," he said.
UNESA itself has made many efforts to reduce the number of drug abuse in society. In addition to forming anti-drug ambassadors, it also strengthens the synergy with the East Java BNNP in producing various prevention strategies. In addition, it organizes various awareness movements through seminars, talk shows and many more. In addition, the students also strengthen the war against drugs system through the creation of the SIMPEL application which is used at the East Java BNNP. #Life with Dignity Without Drugs [PR of UNESA]
