Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—Surabaya State University (UNESA) conducted an online socialization of the Introduction to the Cambridge Curriculum on Sunday, October 22 2023. This activity is part of preparing students who will carry out the Introduction to the School Environment (PLP) program at international schools .
Prof. Dr. Fida Rachmadiarti, M.Kes., as Academic Director, said that knowing the implementation of the Cambridge curriculum is important for students as prospective teachers, especially students of the Education Study Program at FMIPA (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and FEB (Faculty of Economics and Business) who already have international class.
He hopes that with this socialization students will not only understand the core curriculum, but can also translate it into learning activities at school.
Head of Singapore Intercultural Schools (SIS) Palembang , Bibie Nariswari, S.S., M.Pd., as the speaker on that occasion shared her experiences in implementing the Cambridge curriculum in the school she leads.
International schools with the Cambridge curriculum have the privilege of applying the Montessori learning method. The aim is to develop students' abilities not from the final results of their grades, but from the process they go through.
The advantages of students using the Cambridge curriculum, 1) are confident in working with their own and other people's information and ideas, 2) responsible for themselves, responsive and respectful of others, 3) reflective in developing their learning abilities, 4) innovative and ready to face new challenges in the future, 5) involved intellectually, socially, and ready to make a change.< /p>

Furthermore, there are 4 stages in the Cambridge curriculum. Cambridge Pathway provides students with an educational pathway from ages 5 to 19. The pathways include Cambridge Primary, Cambridge Lower Secondary, Cambridge Upper Secondary and Cambridge Advanced. "The stages of the Cambridge Pathway are perfectly prepared from primary to secondary and pre-university years," he said.
Each stage not only builds on the development of students from the previous one, but can also be offered separately. There are 9 subjects offered by Cambridge Primary, including digital literacy, English, English as a second language, Mathematics, Sports, Science, Art and Design.
"In English as a second language or English as a second language is very helpful for students who have a poor background in English. "For students whose progress is slow, we give English as a second language," he said.
Cambridge measures students' abilities accurately. Focusing teachers' instructional efforts. Monitor student development through assessments or evaluations in each program. First, computer base assessment, an assessment to measure potential and identify children's needs.

Then at the Cambridge Upper Secondary stage, the exam is called IGSE or International General Certificate Upper of Secondary Education for grades 9 and 10 of high school. Cambridge IGCSE is the most popular international exam for 14-16 year olds. More than 800 thousand applicants apply every year, and students can choose from more than 70 subjects, which have been tested, tested and trusted, and are carried out by 4,800 schools from 146 countries.
IGSE is an end-of-year assessment of student learning. This assessment is fair in every country, especially for countries whose first language is not English. To prevent question leaks, Cambridge has made such a schedule. The exams are written, oral and practical depending on the subject taken. The assessment is from A-G.
Cambridge IGCSE is a preparation for Cambridge Advanced and has been recognized by several universities and companies. Cambridge Advanced is aimed at students in grades 11 and 12 of high school. There are AS and A level type programs which aim to strengthen understanding and develop students' knowledge, conceptual understanding and high order thinking skills.
