SURABAYA—Faculty of Language and Arts (FBS) Surabaya State University (UNESA) together with Apebskid (Teacher-Researcher Affiliate of Culture, Language, Literature, Communication, Art and Design) East Java held webinar #2 with the theme "Prospects for the Commodification of Children's Literature" online, on Saturday, November 30 2024.
In his remarks, the Chair of the East Java Commissariat Apebskid, as well as a lecturer at FBS UNESA, Much. Khoiri said that this activity was intended to strengthen literary forums and discourse in East Java, which this time specifically discussed children's literature with experts.
"In the future, Apebskid will cover various fields to develop affiliates that continue to work together and "open to collaborative projects," said the literacy activist and prolific writer at the 'House of Champions' campus.
Indonesian Apebskid Board of Trustees, Suwardi Endraswara expressed his interest in themes discussed. He emphasized that it is important to highlight children's literature, because it is the basis for learning literature from an early age.
"So if it is given attention through a commodification lens, it has the potential to become a prospect that spurs and triggers commissariats to organize further activities," he said.< /p>
This activity was opened by the Chairman of the Indonesian Apebskid Expert Council, Setya Yuwana Sudikan. The UNESA professor said that the concept of commodification, which consists of the causal factors, forms, functions and impacts associated with children's literature, can increase awareness of children's literature.
"This activity is important to stimulate interest in children's literature. "Apart from this activity, I hope that the research school agenda under Apebskid East Java can empower researchers under the direct auspices of experts who are experts in their fields," he said.
This webinar was attended by three speakers who are experts in each field. 1) Suyatno, UNESA professor who presented material on 'Commodification of Children's Literature.' 2) Djuli Djatiprambudi, UNESA professor who discussed 'Children and Their World: In the Beginning is Play.'
Next, 3) Ali Mustofa, also a UNESA expert who delivered on 'Children's Literature and Environmental Awareness: Writers, Literature and Landscape.' Zulidyana.
Ali Mustofa discussed the importance of introducing children to education from an early age through children's literature as a medium that can play a role in teaching environmental values.
“We can implement this in education. "One of them is by integrating children's literature that focuses on the environment in the school curriculum and carrying out story-based learning activities," he said.
The next speaker, Suyatno highlighted children's literature as a commodity that is now the center of world attention, only stories to -Indonesianism has not been commoditized, its scope is still in the realm of family storytelling, its powerful power has not yet emerged, and it has not yet been exploited with passion and high ambition.
"Folklore stories that contain local Indonesian wisdom in their development "It is only highlighted as oral literature, even though it would have great potential if it were developed as a fertile field for children's literature that is full of moral values," he said.
According to him, there are several ways that can be pursued in developing children's literature in Indonesia, namely polishing, dig, and hook. "Polish children's literature through available theories, then explore new stories in Indonesia, and link children's stories with other fields," he explained.
Meanwhile, Djuli Djatiprambudi emphasized that children's world should be filled with play, learn and create. Not only prioritizing academic areas, but also non-academic ones.
“Playing is an important part of children's growth and development. "Because through playing children learn social, emotional and cognitive skills," he added.
This activity is the first webinar which was previously held on November 16 with the theme "Preserving Art through Education and Community Culture".
