This international PKM and KKN is expected to preserve Javanese language and culture abroad, including Malaysia.
Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Javanese Language and Literature Education Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts (FBS), Surabaya State University (UNESA) is carrying out Community Service (PKM) and Real Work Lectures (KKN) in Malaysia, from late October to early November 2024.< /p>
The activity which took place at the Mbah Anang Muar Palace, Johor Baru, Malaysia was intended to expand networks and preserve Javanese culture abroad, especially in Malaysia.
Activity This received a warm welcome from the community and the Parit Bugis Javanese Association of Muar Johor Baru, represented by the head of the Mbah Anang Palace, Johar Paimin. "This activity is very useful for preserving Javanese language and culture in Malaysia," he said.
Previously, the UNESA Javanese Language and Education Study Program had opened online Javanese Language and Literature education classes with the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
The Coordinator of the Javanese Language and Literature Education Study Program, Latif Nur Hasan stated that this activity is expected to be able to strengthen Indonesia-Malaysia relations in the fields of education and culture.
"Hopefully this service activity can be a bridge between "the two countries will continue to work together in the fields of education and culture," he said.
This activity involved a number of lecturers, namely Udjang Pairin, Darni, Surana, Octo Dendy Andriyanto, Sugeng Adipitoyo, and Respati Retno Utami. This PKM also collaborated with several partners including the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, the Parit Bugis Java Association.

This activity also resulted in cooperation in a number of fields between UNESA and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
The PKM team provided material on introducing Javanese, language etiquette, as well as training in writing Javanese script, which was enthusiastically welcomed by the participants. Apart from that, UNESA lecturers and students also introduced traditional arts. Java is like the Lesung Jumengglung lagon.
Regarding international student KKN in Malaysia, it was held for one month, which was attended by several students consisting of M. Juniawan Saputra, Icha Maharani P.H, Sinta Fitri Novia, Sandy Bayu Kusuma, Adhimas Hayyun Pradhipa, Revina Yuliani, and others.
This activity is divided into two waves, namely the first wave which takes place from 2 to 30 October 2024 and the second wave from 7 October to 3 November 2024. In this KKN, UNESA students taught various cultural classes, one of which was a musical class for children.
Overall, This PKM and KKN activity is not only a means of preserving Javanese culture abroad, but also opens up opportunities for Unesa to establish wider international cooperation.
This international PKM and KKN is also an opportunity to strengthen UNESA cooperation with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). This collaboration resulted in an agreement which includes cooperation in the field of collaborative research and PKM, scientific publications for students and lecturers, joint publication of scientific journals, holding international conferences, as well as student and lecturer exchange programs.[*]
