SURABAYA—UNESA Symphony Orchestra (USO) from the Undergraduate Music Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Surabaya State University (UNESA) performed stunningly in the annual concert entitled "UNESA String Orchestra 2024" at Graha Sawunggaling, UNESA Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, on October 21 2024.
The performance of the USO music group or Student Activity Unit (UKM) in the concert which was attended by the leadership and community members of the 'House of Champions' campus was part of the preparations for a prestigious competition at the international level , namely the Hong Kong International Music Competition 2025.
Their stage performance received praise from the leaders. UNESA Chancellor, Nurhasan expressed his appreciation for the performance of the students who were members of the USO. "They showed thorough preparation and extraordinary performance," said the chancellor, who is familiarly called Cak Hasan.
He hopes that USO will be able to perform optimally in Hong Kong next year and can make UNESA and Indonesia proud on the international stage . For this reason, the leadership continues to provide support so that UNESA's musical arts continue to achieve achievements at world level.

Dean of FBS, Syafi'ul Anam emphasized that this concert was not just a musical performance, but rather an opportunity to strengthen preparations for an international event. This concert is an important 'warm up' before they compete in Hong Kong later.
"This is real proof of our students' hard work. We are optimistic that they can achieve the best results," he said.
In this concert, the USO performed a total of 15 songs led by three conductors: Moh. Sarjoko, Harpang YudhaEmployeeto, and Marda Putra Mahendra. This performance was enlivened by collaboration with a number of talented vocalists and soloists.
For example, Monica, UNESA golden ticket winner; Citra Nabila, 1st place National Vocalist Star; and Radhitya Alfarizqi, winner of the pop vocal solo category at the student festival.
They performed several hit songs that evoked nostalgia for the past, such as "Sigar" from Denny Caknan, "Risalat Hati" from Dewa-19, and "Risalat Hati" from Dewa-19, and " There's a Rainbow in Your Eyes" from Jamrud. The magnificent orchestral arrangement further amazed the audience.
Meanwhile, the performance of Thor & Emier, a talented children's duo from SDIT At-Taqwa Surabaya, also added color to this concert. They performed the traditional folk song "Menthok-Menthok" and the Sholawat "Asyghil."
Their presence gave color to the combination of traditional and religious music, making the USO performance even more memorable.

Chief executive, David Nada Ciptaning or who is familiarly called David, revealed that preparations for this concert had been going on for more than a month with the intensity of training increasing towards the big day.
“This is a very important event for us. Preparation for international competitions certainly requires a lot of time, energy and dedication. "From daily practice to choosing the right repertoire, we do everything with the aim of giving the best performance," he said.
David also added that this concert is not just a performance, but a reflection of the students' enthusiasm in facing challenges in the competition. in the future.
Every musician in the USO is trying their best to show the best, both technically and emotionally conveyed through music.
“We have sent a selection video for the competition in Hong Kong and now all that remains is waiting for the results. "We hope that support from various parties, especially from UNESA and the community, can be additional energy for us," he added.
Through this event, USO UNESA shows its class as one of the student orchestras that is ready to compete in international events. This concert is also a strategy to finalize preparations to conquer prestigious world-class competitions.[*]
