Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-In order to improve Indonesia's sporting achievements, the government recently launched the Great Design of National Sports, while universities support it through the implementation of Sport Science. Like UNESA for example, recently the UNESA lecturer team designed the Smart Footwork Badminton Trainer and received an appreciation from the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Smart Footwork Badminton Trainer is a tool used to measure the speed and agility of the movement of badminton players. This tool is equipped with a monitoring system to read the speed and agility of players based on patterns from the coach assisted by lidar sensors to determine the position of the players.
The innovation was born from the hands of Dr. Moch. Purnomo, S.Pd., M.Kes Lecturer of Sports Coaching Study Program, Muhammad Syariffuddien Zuhri, ST, MT, Lecturer of Electronic Engineering, and Wahyu Dwi Kurniawan, S.Pd, M.Pd., as Lecturer and Expert in Mechanical Engineering of Appropriate Technology .
Purnomo said that the Smart Footwork Badminton Trainer is equipped with a movement pattern determination system equipped with 9 player movement points and 9 indicator lights for movement direction command points. The use of a wireless connection system makes it easy to monitor from a laptop both by coaches and by athletes during independent training.
He continued, this innovation has several benefits for athletes, (1) being able to do independent exercises to determine measurable performance developments, (2) maintaining the continuity of athletes' training to achieve passing grades even in the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, for coaches, it is possible to measure the progress of athletes' performance, facilitate the strategy of training patterns, and can be used for athletes' passing grade standards, so that the selection of athletes can be done fairly.
"So far, the athletes' badminton training has not been measured periodically, so it is difficult to know the athlete's development optimally. With this innovation, all movements and exercise developments can be measured and known," he said. The coaching and training program is the key to achieving achievement, he said, when training is rarely monitored and measured periodically and accurately, it can have an impact on the development of the athlete himself, both in terms of agility, strength, and speed.
Smart Footwork Badminton Trainer received a warm welcome and appreciation from many parties. Even won 2nd place in the category of product innovation in the field of sports achievements in the National Competition for Innovation and Applied Sports Technology by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia on 7-10 September 2021.
According to the direction of the President and the Minister of Youth and Sports, he said, from this innovation, the three of them will continue to contribute by establishing the Sport Science community as a forum for creation and innovation in the field of sports achievements in the future. "We will continue to develop Sport Science based on artificial intelligence and big data analytics," he concluded. (UNESA PR)
