As part of strengthening the implementation of the Independent Learning and Independent Campus (MBKM) and Vocational Programs, the 'One Step Ahead' campus collaborates with the East Java Chamber of Commerce in improving industry-based technical competence for lecturers.
UNESA Chancellor, Prof. Nurhasan, M.Kes., said that through this collaboration, lecturers took part in the technical competency test program organized by the East Java Chamber of Commerce through the Kadin Institute. The goal is to strengthen the competence of lecturers so that they can truly understand the flow and needs of the business world and the industrial world (DUDI).
“What lecturers teach their students is really in accordance with developments and what is needed by the industrial world. We hope that the graduates that we produce, from vocational training for example, can immediately perform and there is no gap between the skills of graduates and the needs of industry or companies," explained the man who is familiarly called Cak Hasan.
He added that industrial certification for lecturers is currently very necessary, because in addition to academic demands, it is also aimed at improving the quality of lecturers which has a positive impact on improving the quality of learning at UNESA. "This is part of strengthening MBKM, the Vocational program and industry-based certification are also being promoted by the Ministry of Education and Culture," he explained.

Chairman of the East Java Chamber of Commerce, Adik Dwi Putranto in Surabaya said that his party is committed to bridging the world of education with DUDI. He added that the problem so far is that university graduates stutter when faced with the industrial world. This is because there is a gap between the competencies learned or possessed by graduates and the needs in the field.
“With MBKM through internship programs and so on, students can understand and have the competencies needed in the field. Plus, later what the lecturers teach is also relatable. Because the lecturers also have industrial-based technical competencies," he explained. "The graduates, besides we direct them to have hard skills, are also strong in soft skills and character. Like the way of communication, collaboration determines innovation, including decisions," he explained again.
