Unesa. AC ID. SURABAYA—There are many ways that can be done to help children with cancer, one of which is by providing Logotherapy counseling as is done by students from the UNESA Student Creativity Program for Community Service (PKM-PM) team.
They provide counseling for children suffering from cancer who stopped at the Surabaya Indonesian Child Cancer Care Foundation (YPKAI) Surabaya some time ago. This therapy uses five media during the counseling process, namely: dolls, Harchilwell's monopoly, pop-up story books, Lego, and drawing media.
The five media above have obtained permission for media suitability in the material expert test , test media experts, and test potential users. So it can be ensured that the media used is validated as safe and in accordance with the objectives of the counseling implementation. The following are the functions of each of the media above:
The dolls in question are hand puppets and creative dolls used in counseling using the Logotherapy technique. "The stories that are told include Logotherapy values so that it is hoped that children with cancer can absorb the values that are told so that they become more enthusiastic about living their lives," said Wasilatul Rahmah, head of the UNESA PKM-PM team.
Student Guidance FIP Counseling (BK) added that they also created the Harchilwell monopoly game which is a modification of the monopoly game, which consists of two cards, namely: a self-reflection card and a hope card with the aim of revealing the child's character, feelings and ideals as well as his life's purpose.
The pop-up storybook contains stories about children's favorite cartoon films, namely the film Happy Feet which is modified to include Logotherapy values. With the hope that, after reading the pop up book story, children can adopt the positive values in the modified cartoon story.
Lego is a media to support partner requests, which is also used in counseling. Lego can be used as a medium to reveal children's characters and feelings. By looking at the shape of the Lego creations produced by the child.
The counselor can also ask why the child chose certain colors in Lego. So that counselors can find out the child's character in this way. Similar to Lego, drawing media is a supporting medium in counseling.
Drawing media consists of a painting tool set, sketchbook and canvas tote bag which are expected to be used to express children's feelings in the form of images.
Supervising lecturer, Bakhrudin All Habsy, said that the PKM-PM Harchilwell team he supervised was creative and really needed to entertain and even help cure cancer suffered by children at YPKI Surabaya.
The students' work, he continued, it needs to be disseminated widely so that it can benefit the public or inspire other campus students to continue to produce innovations that can help children with cancer.[]
