Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI), Dr. (H.C). H. Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, M.Sc., was present to give a scientific oration in front of 2,088 graduates at the 107th Graduation Ceremony of Surabaya State University (UNESA) at GRAHA UNESA, on Monday, September 18 2023.
On On that occasion, Cak Imin (his nickname) motivated UNESA graduates not to stop learning and continue to make the best contribution to society, nation and state. Current graduates, he continued, have gone through various difficult times as part of the competency maturation process.
These difficult times have given birth to a generation that encourages progress and transformation. “The difficult times of the pandemic have educated and taught a generation with digital competence. "On the other hand, these difficult times make us continue to care about the environment and the continued state of this nation," he said.
Difficult times, he added, also teach us the important role of science and technology and scientific principles in overcoming the problems of national life. and statehood. Difficulties also encourage society and the nation to continue to develop a sense of crisis, the urgency to resolve the crisis, so that everyone can answer problems, both on a personal, national and global scale. .
"Various difficult times and processes are what need to be grateful for, so that the graduates this time are special and this certainly has the potential for progress, sustainability and our sensitivity and ability to solve the problem in matters nation and world. "This can be capital for all graduates and our nation in general," he said.
Cak Imin, also explained a number of challenges in the global context faced by college graduates today, such as the food crisis, energy crisis and financial crisis. Due to war and the world economic downturn has a direct impact on life and is a challenge in itself for the Indonesian nation.
Other challenges such as era disruption, moral decadence, mental health, and unfair conditions, require sincerity and seriousness to not get tired in carrying out improvements in perfecting national development so that Indonesian life continues to progress and grow.
"Therefore, we must always provide solutions and we are sure that UNESA and its academic community and graduates through its strong academic traditions and educational system innovation are part of the effort "to continue to monitor the quality of education according to the challenges of the times," he stressed.
All parties, including UNESA, must continue to produce advanced and equitable education that encourages the formation of superior and empowered people both physically and mentally. Superior education to give birth to a civil society, namely a society capable of becoming a nation oriented towards justice, diversity and unity.
Civil education reminds Cak Imin of a book written by the famous educator and education expert, Paulo Freire . In the book, said Cak Imin, education must liberate, not provide shackles.
Education must also make all students, including students, not objects but active and creative subjects. Not only do students memorize concepts, ideas and formulas, but this time's graduates truly become agents of change who are aware of the world and their surroundings.
"We hope that graduates will have that profile, who will have the awareness to shape society. Give birth and build a civil society that will bring about a just and sustainable nation. We will make this happen through transformation to make education successful from an early age, mothers- mothers to the elderly," said Cak Imin motivatingly. [*]
