Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya - Students of the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Language and Arts, Unesa held an exhibition entitled Unkarupa 5 with the theme of reflection. The exhibition which was held from December 22 to December 26 2021 at T3 Building, Faculty of Language and Arts Unesa also exhibited dozens of works of art students from the 2018 class. "Reflection was appointed as a theme so that fellow artists can reflect on themselves," said Setiawan Rahmatullah, as the chief executive of Unkarupa 5. He also said that this exhibition also has reflections and thoughts that can be expressed in the exhibition. Not just exhibitions, several activities were also held at Unkarupa, including workshops, talk shows, artist talks, performance art, as well as live music. Various works are exhibited. There are painting, sculpture, textile art, craft art, and so on.
One of the works that greets the eye when entering the third floor of the exhibition room is the work of a student named Nurma Fitria. Nurma's painting entitled "Current" has a human philosophy that always puts hope and expectations in the future. In fact, what really matters is where we run, with whom, and what we do. Humans often plan to achieve their goals. And that goal is what sometimes makes him disappointed if it is not achieved and he will try to continue to reach that goal. Depicted with a closed eye symbol which means that humans always look at the time like blind people, do not know what will happen but have high expectations. This painting deepening art student takes approximately one month to complete his work. Not only has a story, the work he makes has an underwater element which is his trademark.
No less interesting is the work of Feriyanto, the only fine art student who has studied sculpture. The works entitled "Anxiety Ideas" on the head statue and "Steps for Healing" on the two-legged statue tell about the atmosphere of a pandemic. Therefore, the head statue is accented with a mask to explain how hectic the use of masks was at the beginning of the pandemic. He chose gold in his work because gold is a symbol of prosperity. "I hope this painting can represent our condition, which wants to return to prosperity as it was before the pandemic," he said. Feriyanto revealed the reason for choosing this art, "Because sculpture is a three-dimensional art so it looks like real" he added.
It is hoped that this exhibition can be a means of education and entertainment for its visitors. The chief executive of the exhibition also hopes that through this exhibition he can re-realize and develop art and prove that Unesa also has artists with amazing works. (Unesa Public Relations)
