Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-State University of Surabaya (UNESA) and University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) discussed the development of special applications for students with special needs at a meeting held in the 6th Floor Meeting Room of the UNESA Quality Assurance and Community Service (LPPM) Building on Wednesday (22/09/2021) .
LPPM Secretary Dr. Oce Wiriawan, M.Kes revealed that universities have an important role in improving services for children with special needs. Therefore, universities must collaborate in creating innovations for children with special needs.
“UNESA has advantages in the fields of disability, arts and culture, and sports science that we have developed. We are very open to discussion and collaboration. It is hoped that Unesa can develop various applied research works in a sustainable manner,” said Oce.
As a representative of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Head of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD), Arina Restian, M.Pd revealed about the purpose of making the disability application. According to him, the disabled application can make it easier for students who have visual and hearing barriers to access and carry out academic activities, such as exams, assignments, and thesis.
Arina continued, her party collaborated with UNESA as a place for testing applications for disabilities because UNESA has a long track record in the field of disability and has many students with disabilities and has volunteers who are members of the Center for the Study of Disability Services.
He appreciated all forms of disability services at UNESA. For him it was extraordinary. “The MCs for this activity turned out to be blind students and special volunteers were also provided in the room. We have learned a lot from the disability-friendly environment that UNESA has built,” he said.
Furthermore, he revealed that the difabel application that was designed has a feature to submit complaints that can be submitted by people with disabilities. In addition, the way this application works is similar to the online motorcycle taxi application, namely people with disabilities can contact volunteers who are members of the application and make appointments to help students with disabilities carry out several activities related to lectures.
In the future, evaluation and development will be carried out to make the application features even better and easier to use by students with disabilities. "This application has an advantage because without having a whatsapp number, volunteers and students with disabilities will be directly connected to volunteers who are ready to help," he explained. #UNESA Collaboration for the Homeland [UNESA Public Relations]
