Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Student Association of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, State University of Surabaya held the 2nd International Webinar Series, Wednesday, August 16, 2023 online via Zoom Meeting . The webinar, which was named Innovation Talks, raised the theme "The Potential of Human Resources in the Era of Artificial Intelligence (AI)". The event is also included in the 2023 EINSTEIN (Economic Innovation on Scientific Competition) series of events, namely an international scientific essay competition agenda that is open to students throughout ASEAN.
Fitriah Dwi Susilowati, S.Sos., M.SM. , as the Supervisor Organizer in his speech said that this activity is an annual routine activity and is included in the agenda of the department with HMJ. "By raising issues related to the potential of AI in the development and improvement of human resources, hopefully we can take important points for us to apply and benefit together," said the Lecturer of the Economics Study Program. Nurul Syifaa Mohs Shakil is a Senior Lecturer (Economics) at the University of Technology MARA (UITM) Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. He discussed how AI can humanize work, because so far artificial intelligence (AI) has often been associated with automation or the loss of many jobs. Even though AI can also be used to improve the quality of human work, one example is by automating repetitive tasks using AI-powered tools, so that it can provide free time for humans to focus on more creative work. "AI can provide real-time feedback and support to employees, helping employees develop new skills and achieve their career goals," said the woman from the neighboring country.
He also explained a number of benefits of AI for the humanization of work, starting from can build trust between humans and machines, support the successful integration of AI, to enhance the user experience by making AI more intuitive and user-friendly. Although it offers a number of benefits, according to the woman who is familiarly called Nurul, humans as workers are also required to do two things. Sure, upskilling (improving existing skills or knowledge) and reskilling (learning new skills and knowledge), because in the era of AI both have a significant economic impact. “As AI continues to transform the economy, upskilling and reskilling will become increasingly important for the workforce. By investing in these skills, companies can adapt to changes in the job market and remain competitive," explained Nurul. A series of economic impacts from upskilling and reskilling in the AI era, among others: can create new job opportunities, help workers adapt to new roles, increase employee retention and productivity, so that companies have a good economic position in the AI era.
Nurul also underlined, there are 4 skills and jobs that will be needed in the AI Era, such as:
- AI Coders
This is because code is the backbone (foundation) of AI, so it is predicted that the demand for skilled AI coders will skyrocket.
- Healthcare Liaisons
With the arrival AI, repetitive tasks in health care can be automated so that later health professionals (doctors and other health workers) will focus more on complex tasks.
- Researchers (Researches) < /ol>
- Customer service representatives (Customer Service Representatives)
AI also brings good opportunities for researchers. This is because, the era of AI demands that various industries that apply AI require more researchers for its development, not only that researchers also play a role for AI itself so that it can continue to grow and innovate more.
With the increasing use of chatbots and virtual assistants, companies need human representatives to handle more complex customer interactions.
Nurul explained that the shift in space work due to AI does not need to be feared, instead it is used as a spirit to improve. “AI will not completely replace human workers; it will augment their work with smart tools. With AI taking over repetitive tasks, human workers will devote their time to more complex and strategic work that creates greater value for the company," he said.
Through his discussion in the webinar, three important things were discussed. , namely: 1. AI is revolutionizing work because the increasingly widespread use of AI is able to change the way businesses operate and the roles workers play. 2. Human resources are very important to develop by implementing talent strategies to build the right workforce and is very important in the reality of AI. And 3. Empower the workforce with AI, because it is an opportunity to enable the workforce to focus on more meaningful and less repetitive creative and collaborative work.
