Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-Surabaya State University collaborated with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia for Afghanistan and the Embassy of Afghanistan for Indonesia on Thursday (29/04/2021). The event, which was connected with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), was held on the 11th Floor of the Lidah Wetan Unesa Rectorate Building and was attended virtually by the Afghan Embassy.
Unesa Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes through a speech read by the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Cooperation, Dr. Sujarwanto, M.Pd said that Unesa has a strategic program that is guarded by international cooperation offices and faculties. In recent years, Unesa's international program has received great attention from foreign institutions and students. Such as the BIPA program, student exchanges, international internships, and joint research with many of the world's top researchers and universities. In fact, in recent years, Unesa has also provided many scholarships for international students, such as Thailand, Malaysia, and several other countries.
All of these are Unesa's efforts to contribute to the improvement of education, human resources in Indonesia and the world based on the spirit of collaboration and innovation. To follow up on this collaboration, Unesa provided special scholarships to Afghan students or students to study at Unesa. This collaboration is part of the implementation of the independent learning program on an independent campus. "Hopefully it can improve the quality and quality of the implementation of the Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi towards Unesa. One Step Ahead for an Advanced Indonesia," hoped the Chancellor of Unesa.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Afghanistan, H.E. Dr. Arief Rachman, M.D said that Afghanistan is one of the strategic countries in Central Asia, at the 'crossroads' of Asia. Almost the same as Indonesia which is also strategic. Because of that, it became a struggle for other countries. He added that this cooperation is a strategic cooperation that carries out the vision of the two countries in the future. Namely preparing teachers or educators, preparing superior and quality human resources in the future. For Indonesia, of course this must be used to welcome 100 years of Indonesia.
According to him, Indonesia must equip its generation to welcome Indonesia's golden age. The best provision is insight into state resilience or state defense, Pancasila, character, manners and technology. "I am proud that Surabaya has a campus that is advanced and superior and has contributed to improving human resources on an international scale such as Unesa," he said. At the end of his delivery, he thanked Unesa for preparing the cooperation scheme so that it could be implemented. "When I confided in Unesa's Chancellor, Pak Nurhasan was immediately ready to help. I was even asked how many Afghan students or students we need to prepare for cooperation and scholarship, ”he said, repeating his conversation with the Rector of Unesa.
Meanwhile, H.E, Faizullah Zaki Ibrahimi, the Ambassador of Afghanistan to Indonesia, appreciated the collaboration. The cooperation between Indonesia and Arfganistan has been going on for about 67 years. Recently, it has become more solid and broader to touch in the fields of education and culture. According to him, this collaboration is a great opportunity for students in his country to learn a lot in Indonesia, which has the largest Muslim population in the world. Starting from history, education, culture, tolerance and about the democratic system in Indonesia. "This collaboration will have a significant impact on the educational institutions of the two countries. In the future, hopefully this collaboration can have an impact on improving the economy and defense of each country, "he hoped.
In the FGD session, Prof. Bambang Yulianto, M.Pd, Unesa's Deputy Rector for Academic Affairs, said that Unesa is ready to follow up on this cooperation. Even opened the Indonesian Language Summer Course program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA). The program continues even during the Covid-19 pandemic. "During this pandemic, Unesa opened a virtual classroom. Students follow it from their respective countries. All fees while in Indonesia are free. Even students are picked up at the airport and accommodated properly during their studies, "said Bambang. "Foreign students learn many things besides language, they learn various Indonesian cultures, culinary delights, tourism, and many more.
