Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-A number of university leaders in Indonesia attended a meeting held by the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) at the Four Point By Sheraton Ballroom, Pakuwon Indah, Surabaya on Friday, July 15, 2022. The meeting, which was initiated by the UNESA Chancellor, discussed the future of universities in Indonesia, including various breakthroughs and future innovations.
The activity was packaged in the form of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) which was attended by various speakers. There is a Special Staff of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia in the field of Bureaucratic Reform, Prof. Drs. Mohamad Nasir, Ak., M.Sc., Ph.D; Secretary General of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti).
Besides that, Prof. Ainun Na'im, Ph.D., M.BA; Sebelas Maret State University Chancellor: Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum; and Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology: Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC., Ph.D.
UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., said that the event was attended by 25 university rectors from all over Indonesia to stay in touch as well as discuss university strategies in dealing with an era of uncertainty. “From these various campuses, what are the plans for the future. What should we do. This is important so that the campus's important role will have a major impact on the development of the nation and state," he said.
One thing that Cak Hasan hopes is that leaders can share inspiration and encourage each other to improve higher education innovation in the future. “It is necessary to synergize, this is the key to progress now. If we walk alone, it's not cool," he said.
Mohammad Nasir explained that in today's digital era, universities are required to adapt. This affects the choice of study programs at each university. Such as the economics faculty studying finance, management, and marketing, for example, which must continue to adjust to needs. "All study programs and even faculties, I think, have to adapt everything," he said.
However, in the post-Covid-19 era like now, the lecture system is still conducted online. Lectures in the network (online) of course use the help of digital applications such as zoom, google classroom, google meet, microsoft teams, and so on.
Prof. Ainun Na'im said technological advances can replace many human jobs. One of them is the development of artificial intelligence. He also said that the education system in Indonesia should be more flexible and adaptable to technological developments; higher education providers are responsible for the results of education graduates; and technology can solve the global supply-demand mismatch.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho said that there are many people out there who can become successful people without going through higher education. But the advantages of people who take higher education with people who do not exist in the mindset or mindset. This mindset is formed from the breadth of knowledge and experience experienced by each individual.
This FGD was attended by 25 rectors and their staff. From UNESA, apart from the Chancellor and the Senate, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs was also attended; vice chancellor for General Affairs and Finance; vice chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni; vice chancellor for Planning and Cooperation.
