Despite the covid-19 pandemic, the implementation of the General Election (Pemira) as a form of democratic practice in the campus environment is still carried out. Different from previous years, this time Pemira is implemented online with an e-voting system. From campaigns, candidate socialization, file verification, to the time of voting, all are conducted online. This refers to the policy of learning from home.
The vote itself was held from December 28, 2020 from 08.00 to 16.00 simultaneously. The vote can only be accessed by students through LoginSingleSign On (SSO) Unesa using Unesa email.
Lecturer of Student Executive Board (BEM) Of Surabaya State University, Muhammad Farid Ilhamuddin, S.Pd., M.Pd., said that this condition is a challenge for Unesa students, where all activities during the pandemic are carried out online from their respective homes. "Unesa students can prove that they are able to hold pemira activities simultaneously ranging from major level to university online smoothly and successfully," said Farid.
Farid also added that in this era of technology and social media, plus the condition of Unesa millennial students who are definitely "literate" in technology and information, it is time for this kind of activity to be carried out online. Although undeniable, the challenge faced is the internet signal that is not always stable.
In addition, online masseurs are also considered more effective, especially to reduce human error. Another advantage is, there is no need for technical preparations such as preparing polling stations, ballot papers, coblos tools, etc. Students only need to open their phone / laptop and just choose the desired candidate. "All methods of implementing Pemira have their own pluses and minuses. But by going online, it turns out that it can increase student participation. From the usual only about 7 thousand students participated, yesterday to 16 thousand students," said Farid.
"This simultaneous online sorter can be used as a prototype for ormawa to be passed on to the next sorters," added Farid.
Finally, Farid hopes that the campus can be a forum in learning good democracy for students, organizing the student on campus to be one of the contested media in channeling his talent in democratic learning, so that students can pour creative ideas, ideas, and positive thoughts. According to him, losing the contest becomes commonplace, just how this student continues to upgrade to become a better person, so that these democratic students must have a great soul by obeying the principles of democracy with an integrated.
"I hope unesa students can maintain integrity, obey legal norms, and put forward deliberation as a joint effort with a humble attitude to solve existing problems," concluded this FIP Lecturer. (QQ/ay)
