Unesa. ac.id, SURABAYA–Modes of sexual violence are increasingly diverse, some occur online or virtually, there is also the latest in the form of sex grooming via social media. This was conveyed by Nanda Audi, S.Psi. M.Psi., as a UNESA lecturer in the Extravaganza Talkshow by Anti-Sexual Violence Ambassadors, in the Auditorium of Building i6, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol), on Friday, April 26 2024.

Nanda said the strategies that are often found start from social media, especially dating or dating applications. The perpetrator usually uses social media and online communications to approach the victim, create an impression of security, and gradually lead the victim into more vulnerable situations.
Simply put, the perpetrator will plan a strategy to prepare, build a relationship, and manipulate the victim by the ultimate goal of exploiting them sexually.
The perpetrator's strategy usually involves paying special attention to the victim, giving gifts, providing emotional support, and identifying and exploiting the victim's vulnerabilities.
"Sex grooming In the context of sexual crimes, they do not only occur physically, but can also involve psychological and digital dimensions, and if students feel signs of violence, immediately report them to the PPKS Task Force," he said.
He adding that victims of this violence often experience significant psychological trauma. Selection of victims who tend to be more vulnerable or have no experience with such situations can increase the traumatic impact on the victim.
From a legal aspect, Iman Pasu Marganda Hadiarto Purba, S.H., M.H., Head of Sub-Directorate for Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence said < em>sex grooming is actually not written directly in the law, but is part of sexual violence.
"If we refer to the PPKS Law regarding sexual violence, it is stated that violence Sexual intercourse is degrading, harassing and is not justified in any form," he explained.
He explained that cases of sex grooming often occur where victims can experience online harassment and digital violence. Usually the perpetrator threatens to share personal information or images of the victim online which can create additional stress and harm the victim's reputation.
As a preventive measure, sex grooming needs to be a common concern and part of educational content to increase awareness of risks such as excessive attention, forming emotional relationships too quickly, and introducing sexual elements inappropriately.
"Maintain self-limitations when interacting with new people, especially not giving too much personal information. "detail and avoid sharing personal information that is too detailed publicly," said Iman.
