Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—The German Language and Literature Department Student Association, Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Surabaya State University (UNESA) held Deutsche Woche XXVII with the theme "Die Einheit erstellt die Vielfalt, durch die Vielfalt erkennen wir die Einheit or Unity causes diversity, through diversity we recognize unity.”
The event was held in the Prof. Auditorium. Dr. Leo Idra Ardiana, M.Pd., T2 Building, FBS, Unesa Lidah Wetan Campus, on Saturday, October 14 2023. Deutsche Woche is an annual HMJ German Language and Literature program which aims to improve students' German language skills.
< p>This activity consists of activities such as the German Language Competition, National Webinar, and German Language Festival (Deutsches fest). Coordinator of the Undergraduate German Language Education Study Program, Dwi Imroatu Julaikah, S.Pd., M.Pd., stated that this activity has a concept similar to German Language Week which is held every year.27th Deutsche Woche This, he continued, means a long journey lasting 27 years so that it has become a legendary activity. He is optimistic that this activity will not be the last Deutsche Woche, because he sees German language learners continuing to grow and develop.
Of course, he added, this will be accompanied by innovation to present new, fresher nuances and follow developments in German language learning every year. "This activity is like coming back to life, because this is the first time after Covid-19 that this activity has been held offline, when I was a student I was also a participant and now I am a lecturer here," he said.

Ajeng Dianing Kartika, S.S., M.Hum., Assistant Lecturer for Student Affairs, Department of German Language and Literature, said that this activity was a means of branding as well as a means of gathering UNESA German Language study programs with communities of German language activists, including educational institutions, language guidance institutions, and other communities, one of which is high school which does have German as a subject.
"After studying, you will definitely gain something or competence, this is being implemented today through competitions. "The enthusiasm of the participants is also high considering that this activity is the first time it has been offline after previously being online, this proves that the friendship and collaboration together has given rise to the never-ending activity of learning German," he said.
Zidny Hudan Feriansyah, Chief Executive (PIC) of Deutsche Woche 2023 said, the competition held consisted of several branches, such as: Deutchkenntnisse (Knowledge of the German language), Nachrichten Lesen (Reading the news), Märchen Erzählen (Storytelling), Kreatives Video and Photography offline for students and online for students and the general public.< /p>
“We provide the online option because most of the German speaking students and general participants are from outside East Java. "Thank God, during the 5 months of preparation we were able to give our best," he explained.
Florentine Morella, Chair of HMJ German Language and Literature, explained that this year's theme was chosen according to the motto "Unity in Diversity" stemming from their anxiety about seeing unity in Indonesia is increasingly divided, especially through social media.

This is a form of their movement to introduce that German language and culture can be a reflection of unity so that in the future unity in Indonesia will be even better.
“ "The universal unity raised in the theme is also integrated in every branch of the competition, especially digital competitions such as vlogs or creative videos and photography uploaded on social media so that it becomes a medium for campaigning for unity in the digital era," he explained.
Diana Putri and Yulita Widya at SMAN 1 Lawang, Malang Regency, looked excited and was looking forward to this year's Deutsche Woche. The previous year, he had taken part in the activity, but had not won, so he tried again this year.
“At first I was doubtful and afraid. "But the encouragement from the people around me makes me confident that whatever the result, everyone will still be proud of me," said Diana.
Meanwhile, Yulita said that even though it was her first time taking part in Deutsche Woche in the Märchen Erzählen competition, she admitted that she was very happy and very proud of his appearance. "Thank you UNESA for holding DW which can be a forum for everyone to show their German language talents," he concluded. []
