Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Surabaya State University (UNESA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to improving its reputation in the international arena by participating in a new ranking organized by Times Higher Education in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows, THE Interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR).
On In holding the first ISR ranking, which was attended by 749 universities from 92 countries, UNESA managed to rank 601+ in the world. These results are based on the official announcement of THE ISR 2025 which was released on Thursday, 21 November 2024, London time.
“This achievement shows that UNESA has a far-sighted vision, namely by providing support, not only on research that focuses on one scientific discipline, but also on interdisciplinary research," said Nadi Suprapto, Director of Innovation, Rankings and Scientific Publications.
The professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) explained that the ISR methodology consists of three pillars, each of which represents a stage in the research cycle, namely inputs (19%), process (16%), and outputs (65%).
Each pillar consists of a number of metrics totaling 11 metrics which include interdisciplinary science research funding (8%), industry funding (11%), measure of success (4%), physical facilities (4%), admin support (4%), promotion process (4%).
Next, number of interdisciplinary science research publications (10%), proportion of interdisciplinary science research publications (5%), utility outside of discipline (5%), quality of interdisciplinary science research (20%), and reputation (25%).
Commitment to a World Class University
Bambang Sigit Widodo, Deputy Chancellor III for Research, Innovation, Ranking, Publications and Science Center, said that this proud achievement fueled enthusiasm to continue to increase UNESA PTN-BH's recognition at the international level.
For this reason, UNESA is intensifying its internationalization program, strengthening the curriculum and research ecosystem--competitive innovation global, strengthening global cooperation networks, improving the quality of human resources, utilizing technology and innovation in the learning process, research and university governance.
“We are also increasing the allocation of funds for research, to encourage the publication of Scopus indexed journals. "We also continue to support and facilitate various scientific activities to increase lecturer productivity in producing publications and innovations," he said.
UNESA Chancellor, Nurhasan or Cak Hasan said that the achievements were good news for the entire UNESA family. And, this is real proof of the hard work and commitment of the entire community in increasing levels and standardization in all lines. "This achievement further motivates UNESA to continue to progress and develop towards a world class university," he said.
The vision to become a world class university that is globally competitive and relevant to the needs of society is a priority for UNESA PTN-BH which is being realized in a number of strategic steps and a measurable roadmap.
