DIVERSITY: Students from various countries display their respective countries' cultural identities at the International Cultural Festival (ICF) #2 UNESA 2024.

SURABAYA—Dozens of international students showcased the culture of their respective countries in the International Cultural Festival (ICF) #2 held by the Subdirectorate or International Affairs Office (KUI) of Surabaya State University (UNESA) at the Rectorate Field, Campus II Lidah Wetan on Friday, 06 September 2024 .
Participants involved in the international cultural festival, which is entering its second year, are students from dozens of countries studying at UNESA. There are those from South Korea, China, Japan, Timor Leste, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Gambia, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.
Vice Chancellor III for Research, Innovation, Ranking, Publications and Science Center, Bambang Sigit Widodo, said that this activity was intended to build good relations between students. According to him, good relationships need to be based on mutual understanding of each other's backgrounds.
UNESA Deputy Chancellor for Division III opened the event by emphasizing the importance of building good relationships between students.
"Activities "This is an opportunity to recognize and understand each other and also to strengthen relationships between students or members of the community who have different national and cultural backgrounds," said the lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol).
The Head of Sub-Directorate or Head of the International Affairs Office, Asrori, said that this activity involved international students studying at UNESA. The number reached 84 students. They study bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. Also in the Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program.
The lecturer at the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) added that this cultural festival is a reflection of 3 SDGs points, namely point 17 regarding partnership for the goals (partnership to achieve goals), point 3 namely good health and well being (healthy and prosperous life), and point 10, namely reduce inequalities (reduced gaps).
"This collaboration is not only academic but also social. This activity really supports understanding, a sense of belonging or a feeling of belonging to create the community is more inclusive," said Asrori.
UNESA's International Cultural Festival was opened by the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Chancellor I and Head of KUI together with the Consulate General of Japan and the Consulate General of Australia.
Festival excitement participants felt this international. Student from Türkiye, Havanur Sonmez, for example, admitted that he was happy to be able to join UNESA students and enliven this cultural festival.
“I like UNESA. When my fellow students and I came here we were welcomed well. "I hope to continue my undergraduate studies at UNESA next year," said the student who is familiarly called Havva.
Momo Shirai from Japan also said the same thing. She is happy to be part of the big UNESA family. On this occasion That time, he was wearing a kimono (Japanese clothing), usually worn in summer.
"This is my first time attending this festival, I am very happy, because I met many friends. I can introduce culture and understand the culture of my friends. "I hope that later I can teach Indonesian language and culture again in Japan," he said.
This event was attended by the Japanese Consulate General Mr. Nakagome Kota and the Australian Consulate General Steve Scott who said that they really hope that students from their country can studying at UNESA to support cultural exchanges and student exchanges
This year's international cultural festival carries the theme 'Enhancing Creativity through Culture Modernity' consisting of various series, starting from Chit-chat, cultural parade, fashion show, university war, to arts and cultural performances.[]
