Discussion of cooperation opportunities between UNESA and the United States (US) Consul General in Surabaya Chris Green with the Director of RELO US Embassy Jakarta, as well as his staff at FBS UNESA.
Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a meeting with a delegation led by the Consul General of the United States (US) in Surabaya Chris Green and the Director of RELO US Embassy Jakarta, Ruth Goode in the meeting room of Building T14, 2nd floor, Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS ) UNESA Campus 2 Tongue Wetan.
The meeting on Thursday, 12 December 2024 was attended by Madlazim, Deputy Chancellor for Division 1 UNESA; Syafi'ul Anam, Dean of FBS; Slamet Setiawan, Director of Cooperation, Coordinating Study Program for English Language Education, and the Access Program site team discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation between UNESA and the US Government, especially in lecturer and student exchange programs.
"These programs can strengthen academic capacity, as well as expand cross-cultural insight between the two countries," said Madlazim, Deputy Chancellor for Academic, Student and Alumni Affairs at UNESA.
The professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) added that at this meeting it was also conveyed that there are many student exchange pathways and programs supported by the US government, both those fully sponsored by the US Embassy and inter-university programs ( U-to-U).
UNESA students can take advantage of this opportunity to access study abroad experiences. UNESA can also collaborate to prepare students and lecturers to apply for scholarships through EducationUSA assistance in Surabaya.
The United States government has run a lecturer exchange program with several universities in Indonesia. UNESA itself is currently accepting one guest lecturer (fellow) in the field of English education.
Regarding opportunities to propose lecturers from other fields outside of English, both online and face to face are also in the spotlight. As a first step, virtual teacher exchange is the most feasible option, noting that a suitable platform is needed to facilitate this exchange.
By twice being trusted as the implementing partner of the Access Program, UNESA continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting inclusive and innovative education. This collaboration is also strengthened by the strategic partnership between Unesa and IIEF, including as the official TOEFL test center at the UNESA Language Center since 2020.
"We hope that this collaboration will continue to develop and bring greater benefits to society, both in education, research and technology transfer," said Madlazim.[*]
