Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Surabaya State University (UNESA) and Ganesha Education University (Undiksha) shared the governance of disability-friendly institutions in the Meeting Room, Rectorate, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Surabaya on Monday, August 5 2024.
Prof. Ni Nyoman Padmadewi from Undiksha said that this meeting with UNESA was in order to create guidelines regarding the exploration of inclusive education in higher education. The lecturer at the English Language Education Master's Study Study Program admitted that he was interested in disability education and that it needed to be an important part of the transformation of higher education.
"Our visit is to share how UNESA can develop disability-friendly institutional governance, whatever "The program, services, and so on. Hopefully it can be an inspiration and motivation to implement it on our campus," he said.
The group from the Island of the Gods was welcomed by the ranks of the Directorate of Disabilities. Director of Disabilities, Wagino, said that disabilities are part of the commitment and excellence of the 'Home of Champions' campus. This commitment is translated into programs and services that students with disabilities can enjoy at UNESA.
Strengthening disability-friendly institutions is part of efforts to encourage an adaptive and inclusive transformation of higher education.
"We has many programs and services, starting from the aspect of new student admissions to special disability pathways, then special disability tests, special disability services to special disability scholarships. This sharing of innovation and services does not exist alone, but through various collaborations with domestic and foreign partners ," he said.
Specifically at the Directorate of Disabilities, there are several programs carried out such as supporting lectures, implementing character building, PKKMB orientation, assistance, disability awareness campaigns, special program training, assistive technology training, and student counseling and parents.
Acep Ovel Novari Beny, Head of Services and Business Section, explained that his directorate is working with several partners to prepare employment opportunities for friends with disabilities. Another service mentioned is the provision of volunteers for UNESA friends with disabilities. "The most important thing is commitment and cooperation," he said.
The task of disabled friends' volunteers is to guide, direct and also accompany disabled friends. Scope of Services Disability Awareness Campaign or disability campaign, held on campus as well as outside campus. Last time, a disability campaign was held on Car Free Day (CFD) to increase awareness of disabilities among the wider community.
