Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Surabaya State University (UNESA) continues to improve teacher competency through a number of training programs, both for domestic school teachers and Indonesian schools abroad.
Most recently, a team of lecturers serving the campus community 'Home of Champions' provided training to increase understanding and ability to implement accommodative learning for teachers at the Jeddah Indonesian School (SIJ) Saudi Arabia some time ago.
Sujarwanto, professor of special education management as head of service said that this training aims to equipping teachers there with additional skills, especially how to implement the accommodative learning model.
"Accommodative learning is a process of adjusting and modifying learning to meet the needs of students, especially students with special needs or GDPK," said the Sragen-born professor .
This training involved a number of lecturers as teams or service members consisting of, Yatim Riyanto; Beni Setiawan; Budiyanto; Wulan Patria Saroinsong; Devina Rahmadiani Kamaruddin Nur; and Muhammad Nurul Ashar.
The Head of SIJ, Sutikno, welcomed this training warmly and enthusiastically. He hopes that this training can be an important provision for teachers in implementing effective and enjoyable learning for all students, disabled and non-disabled.
During the training, 10 teachers from kindergarten to high school at SIJ were enthusiastic with the material presented. One of the participants, Rahma, said that this training was very useful, especially in introducing and understanding forms of accommodative learning for students with disabilities.
"Learning like this is important for us as teachers and this is the first time it has been held. We hope that similar training can be done again more intensively," he said.[*]
