Leaders and lecturers of the Faculty of Vocational Studies with new students at the PKKMB moment.
Unesa. ac.id, SURABAYA—Vocational or applied undergraduate programs have an important role in producing graduates who are ready to demonstrate their abilities in the world of business and industry with specific skills. This is what the leadership of the Vocational Faculty emphasized in the Introduction to New Student Campus Life (PKKMB) which took place from 20-23 August 2024.
This year the Vocational Faculty accepted around 1,285 new students who took part in a series of PKKMB activities. Abdul Hafidz, Deputy Dean for Planning, Finance, Resources, General Affairs, Cooperation, and Communication and Information Technology, said that vocational studies are applied undergraduate programs that have an equivalent position to academic undergraduate programs.
However, Applied undergraduates have a greater focus on practical applications. Vocational education combines theory and practice in balanced proportions, so that students can master knowledge while applying their skills directly.
"There is cooperation between vocational education institutions and the industrial world, which is referred to as the "Link and Match" concept. "This collaboration not only helps create a curriculum that is relevant to the needs of the job market," he explained.
He also discussed the challenges and opportunities facing higher education in Indonesia. Challenges such as global competition, technological adaptation, and the need for specialized skills are of primary concern. However, on the other hand, he sees great opportunities through collaboration with industry, improving the quality of education, and global job opportunities.
Deputy Dean II for Vocational Studies, Abdul Hafidz, provided reinforcement regarding vocations to new students.
Antibullying and Anti-Drug Education
Present as a PKKMB resource person, AKBP Bahrun Nasikin, Kasubditbintibsos Ditbinmas Polda Jatim emphasized the importance of the role of the young generation as the main pillar of nation development in the future. The young generation occupies a strategic position, both as actors in development and as proponents of future development.
Youth is a symbol of the idealism, enthusiasm and aspirations of a nation. In the context of creating a healthy campus, Bahrun emphasized that bullying is a serious threat that must be eradicated. A healthy campus must be free from bullying.
"As a criminal act, bullying can be categorized as abuse, beatings or unpleasant acts as regulated in the Criminal Code (KUHP)," he explained.
p>He added that each form of violence has a different definition and threat of punishment, depending on the level and form of violence committed by the perpetrator. Therefore, it is important for all parties in the campus environment to prevent and report bullying.
Apart from that, the threat of drugs is also a focus of attention. The reason is, this substance or substance, if misused, will damage the body, especially the brain, and cause dependence or addiction. Drug use among students not only damages individual health but also threatens their future as the nation's successors.
"There is also radicalism, especially those related to ideologies or sects that demand fundamental change through violence, which is a real threat. "One of the most extreme forms of radicalism is terrorism," he said.
The process of someone becoming a terrorist often starts with an attitude of intolerance which develops into extremism and ultimately violence. In order to create a campus that is healthy and free from violence, drugs and radicalism, Bahrun emphasized the importance of cooperation between the campus, the police and all elements of society.[]
