Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—The Fine Arts Student Association (HMJ SR) held the opening of the 5th Sengkuni International Art Exhibition with the theme "Re-identity" in the courtyard of T2 Building, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Campus UNESA Lidah Wetan, on Friday, 17 November 2023.
Mahrus Ali, chief executive of Sengkuni 5 said that the theme 'Re-identity' or which means looking back at one's existence is their effort to reflect or look back at one's existence culture in the midst of an era of technology.
Meanwhile, Chair of HMJ SR, Nafisa Fajar, explained that this year Sengkuni 5 was attended by artists from various countries ranging from America, Myanmar, Thailand to Japan, and in collaboration with Visualize vol. 5.
Sito Tosi Biosa, from Visuakerjaan Vol.5 appreciates the collaboration that has existed and hopes that this collaboration will continue in Sengkuni in the following years.
Curator of works in the Sengkuni 5 exhibition, Agus Koecink, explained that this exhibition is actually a challenge to how UNESA Fine Arts students are able to understand curatorial work, relate to each other, discuss and solve problems together.
“This Re-identity exhibition was the idea of friends who reflecting on previous exhibitions in Sengkuni 1-4. They see that the atmosphere is different, and they want us to see ourselves, our own identity, and actually this Re-identity idea has been running by carrying out curatorial work through collaboration, you are great even though you are still in semester 3, ” he said.
Dra. Indah Chrysanti Angge, M.Sn., Coordinator of the Bachelor of Fine Arts Study Program appreciated artists from outside UNESA who participated in enlivening Sengkuni 5 such as artists from Jember (UNEJ), Malang (UB and UM), Bandung (ITB and UPI), Jogja (ISI Jogja and Taman Siswa Jogja), and Surakarta (ISI Surakarta and UNS) as well as artists from abroad such as America, Myanmar, Thailand and Japan.
Coordinator of the Fine Arts Education Undergraduate Study Program, Fera Ratyaningrum, S. Pd., M.Pd., also expressed his appreciation to the committee from the three generations who had collaborated together. "Hopefully Sengkuni 5 will be even more innovative in the future because the benefits of this activity are extraordinary. "Thank you also to the committee for extraordinary progress amidst their activities and busy work," he said.
The Dean of FBS, Syafi'ul Anam, Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for this activity. According to him, this activity had a lot of positive impacts on students by developing soft skills outside the classroom. "I remember this was an activity that since I became deputy dean I signed for Sengkuni 1 and until Sengkuni 5, thank God, it was able to survive and continue to improve in quality. Currently it is followed by works from America, Japan and Thailand," he said.
< p>UNESA Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., congratulated all the artists who had participated. The man who is familiarly called Cak Hasan welcomed the artists who had submitted their work to the extraordinary Sengkuni 5 exhibition."This exhibition is able to become a medium for channeling their works so that they can be enjoyed by the public, hopefully this event can strengthen relations between artists throughout Indonesia and the world," he hoped.
One of the works of world artists on display is an art installation entitled "Visit Palestine Project" by Kaho Ikeda who comes from Japan. The work represents support for Palestine and was inspired by a collection of anti-war and peace posters from the 70s and 90s found at the second-hand shop Shiroto No Ran.
Then there is a work by the American artist Drake Dod, entitled "Back to Self-Identity", which is a work in the form of digital printing, invites the viewer to examine more deeply the artistic concept of personal identity.
This work is a symbol of the use of the medium to dig deeper into life experiences which will provide an overview philosophically related to reflection, essence, evolution, in identity.
The Sengkuni 5 Exhibition will run for 3 days from Friday, 17 November 2023 to Sunday 15, November 2023 at the T2 Building, Floor 3 , FBS UNESA Wetan Tongue. Filled with various other events such as dissections and works talks with artist Putu Sutawijaya.[]
