Unesa.ac.id, KENDARI—The national commemoration of Disaster Risk Reduction Month (PRB) was held in Kendari on 10-15 October 2023. The Crisis Center Mitigation Subdirectorate (SMCC) was again appointed to present best practices for disaster mitigation at the event attended officials, disaster activists and participants from various groups.
Head of SMCC, Dr. Diana Rahmasari, S.Psi., M.Si., together with the Head of the Drugs and Mental Health Section, Aghus Sifaq, S.Or., M.Pd., were present at the activity. The head of SMCC said that their involvement in this activity was the second.
Previously, SMCC was also involved in a similar activity in Bali which was attended by President Joko Widodo and the ranks of ministers. This year's activity, he continued, discussed best mitigation practices from the participants involved as well as an exhibition regarding disaster management equipment. "This year's PRB only two PTNs were invited, namely SMCC UNESA and PSBA Center for Disaster Studies UGM. "Yesterday, we were more concerned with sharing what we have done, disaster mitigation strategies and so on, including especially regarding children," said Diana at UNESA yesterday, Wednesday, 18 October 2023.
Apart from best practice for mitigation activities disasters carried out by UNESA, they also emphasized the importance of the concept of disaster prevention in sporting events. As understood, disasters include natural disasters, non-natural disasters in the form of riots, major accidents, pandemics and so on.
"Starting from the large loss of life in the Kanjuruhan tragedy where SMCC also stepped in to provide PFA and treatment injuries to a number of victims of the tragedy. "That's the part of disasters in the sports sector that needs to have a mitigation strategy," said the psychologist.
The concept of mitigation for preventing disasters at sporting events, he continued, is part of the concept of mitigation before a disaster occurs. Referring to the concept of disaster mitigation, it will consist of 3 management clusters, namely before, during and after a disaster. This sports event mitigation is preventive mitigation before a disaster occurs.
Added by Agus Syfaq, SMCC has held sports event mitigation webinars twice. This is a mitigation step and provides an understanding of the factors, how to anticipate and handle disasters in the sports sector.
"In yesterday's PRB warning we also explained the concept of mitigating sports events, including the factors that must be considered and prepared to prevent "disasters cause riots and minimize casualties," he said.
For your information, this PRB warning is a collective reminder of progress, successes and achievements in maintaining resilience from the impacts of disasters in Indonesia.
This commemoration is a means to strengthen the government, business institutions and community's understanding of DRR activities as an investment for resilience.
The aim is to build mutual awareness, build dialogue and develop networks between DRR actors and can be used as a learning opportunity together for actors with concerns about disaster mitigation activities throughout Indonesia.
Since 2009, the UN Agency UNISDR (United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction) or now called UNDRR (United Nations for Disaster Risk Reduction) has established 13 October is International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. DRR commemoration has become a national agenda which has been held every year since 2013. []
