National seminar presentation session attended by hundreds of UNESA and non-UNESA students.
Unesa. AC ID. SURABAYA—Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a national seminar with the theme "Empowerment-Based Digital Transformation, Higher Education as a Driver of the Indonesian Digital Society Index" on Friday, September 13 2024, at Srikandi Fisipol Building, Campus 1 Ketintang.
This seminar presented competent speakers such as, Hary Budiarto, Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of the Ministry of Communication and Information; Meithiana Indrasari, Chief Executive of the East Java Regional Asia Council for Small Business; and Anam Miftakhul Huda, Coordinator of UNESA's Undergraduate Communication Science Study Program.
This event was opened by the Dean of Fisipol, Wiwik Sri Utami, in the presence of hundreds of UNESA, Stikosa-AWS, and Lambung Mangkurat University student participants. In his speech, the dean emphasized the important role of universities in encouraging increased digital literacy and community empowerment amidst the rapid development of digital technology.

In his presentation , Hary Budiarto highlighted the importance of community empowerment through digital education as one of the keys to increasing the Indonesian Digital Society Index. "Community empowerment based on digital education in universities is very important to build a strong digital ecosystem in Indonesia, especially in East Java," he said.
Meanwhile, Meithiana Indrasari reminded of the threat of cybercrime which is increasingly rampant along with development of information technology. “Cyber crimes are getting more violent. "Being skeptical about the information circulating is one way to survive in this era of information turbulence," he explained.
Anam Miftakhul Huda also emphasized the role of media as a tool of social control in digital transformation. "The media must be a guardian of morals and social control amidst the rapid flow of information that cannot always be trusted," he said.
As chief executive, Eko Pamuji, expressed his pride and enthusiasm for the success of this event. "Communication science is closely related to the Ministry of Communication and Information, so the presence of digital literacy and communication experts from the center is highly appreciated. "The material is really in-depth and very useful for students," he said.[]
