Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Chancellor of Surabaya State University (UNESA) together with dozens of state university chancellors who are members of the Council of Chancellors of Indonesian State Universities (MRPTNI) visited the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) area on Friday-Saturday, 3-4 May 2024.
Chairman of MRPTNI, Prof. Ganefri, M.Pd., Ph.D, said that this visit was to discuss strategic cooperation between state universities and large-scale strategic industries in Indonesia.
The collaboration being explored includes the fields of education and development human resources in the fields of metallurgy, advanced materials science, as well as China-Indonesia cooperation in the industrial sector.
This program is an excellent opportunity to improve the quality of PTN in line with the Merdeka Belajar program. "This is a good step and strategic collaboration to carry out a number of strengthening in various aspects," he said.
Meanwhile, UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., said that collaboration between higher education and the world of business and industry is increasingly being strengthened to maximize the implementation of independent learning so that campus graduates are ready to take action in the world of business and industry.
Apart from that, this collaboration can also escalating breakthroughs and innovations for both universities and industry. "If we look at developments in developed countries, campus and industry have a very strong relationship," said Cak Hasan.
Collaboration Scheme
Meanwhile, HR Director PT IMIP, Achmanto Mendatu, said that the cooperation that could be established included recruiting alumni and providing scholarships at home and abroad.
Apart from that, it also takes the form of student and lecturer apprenticeship programs, the provision of industrial lecturers, industrial public lectures on campuses, and so on. For him, synergy between universities and the world of business and industry is the key to improving the quality of human resources and innovation.
"This collaboration is expected to help improve the quality of Indonesian human resources in the mineral and metal downstream sector, as part of realizing the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045," said Achmanto Mendatu.
Currently, he continued, PT QMB New Energy Materials, which is one of the tenants in the IMIP area, is opening a Masters scholarship program abroad in the field of metallurgy and materials science.
This program is a collaboration with Central South University (CSU), where scholarship recipients will study for 3 years in China, which is jointly funded by GEM Co., Ltd (majority shareholder of PT QMB New Energy Materials), the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, LPDP, and Central South University.
Professor Xu Kaihua, founder of GEM Co., Ltd (Main Director of PT QMB New Energy Materials), explained that the CSU collaboration scholarship program has entered its fourth generation.
Department focus that will be funded are the Departments of Metallurgical Engineering, Transportation Engineering (railway), and International Trade (metal and non-metal industry). Even so, several majors that are still relevant, for example mining, chemical and materials engineering, can still be covered in the program.
"One year of scholarship funding is provided by LPDP, one year by CSU, and one year by PT QMB . "It's just that, as in several previous cases, the quota provided by LPDP is still inadequate, so we fill it with the full funding quota from PT QMB," he said. []
