Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—The Center for Village and Regional Development (Pusbangdesda), Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a Potential Village Academy in the Auditorium, Rectorate of Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, on Saturday, November 16 2024.
This activity was attended by 137 participants who will undergo a series of activities and receive material regarding village governance and village development, discussions and workshops, with resource persons.Head of LPPM UNESA, Muhammad Turhan Yani, said that the aim of this activity was to encourage accelerated development through exploring and developing village potential.
"This academy is a forum for collaboration between universities and local parties which is intended to explore the local potential of villages as a strategic step towards sustainable development," said the professor at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol).
He emphasized that each village has great potential as a condition for progress and independence. It's just that it hasn't been explored and developed properly. Therefore, innovation is needed to manage potential in a sustainable manner.

This activity was attended by hundreds of participants online and offline. They received provisions from a number of presenters who were experts in their fields.
"We must see villages as "a strategic entity, not only as a place with rich natural resources, but also as a center of great opportunities for future national development," he stressed.
The speakers who attended included; Widarjanto as Director of Village Economic Development and Investment, Ministry of Villages who delivered material regarding economic development strategies based on local potential.
Next, Dhanny S. Sutopo, Secretary of the Center for Village Development Studies, Brawijaya University, presented material on village potential mapping techniques. Then, Maghfuri Ridwan, East Java TPP Coordinator provided an understanding regarding effective, transparent and sustainable fund management.
Next, Purnawa Ziarohdin, TV9 Nusantara Coverage Coordinator, who delivered material regarding branding and digitalization of village potential to expand market access and build a strong village identity.
Mufarrihul Hazin, Head of Pusbangdesda UNESA appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants and announced follow-up action in the form of preparing a village potential mapping report. From this report, the five best villages will be selected to take part in the Unesa Assisted Village program in 2025.
“Through this Potential Village Academy, we hope to create villages that are economically advanced, independent and an inspiration for other villages throughout Indonesia," he said during the final session. [*]
