Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA–In commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the State University of Surabaya (UNESA), the Center for Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI) for Arts and Culture held a Shadow Puppet Performance Crowded at Graha Sawunggaling UNESA Lidah Wetan, Friday, 20 December 2024.
The performance, which was attended by all levels of leadership and the UNESA community, was the culminating evening of a series of art competitions with the theme of preserving traditional culture. Apart from that, there were also thanksgivings and appreciation for the community and work units for achievements.
The Chancellor of UNESA, Nurhasan or who is familiarly called Cak Hasan, expressed his appreciation for holding this event. He expressed his pride to the UNESA academic community because of his hard work, smart work, which resulted in achieving 14 Diktisaintek Awards.
"I hope this achievement does not make us lulled, but it must making it a motivation to maintain and even improve it in the future," he said.

Cak Hasan also hopes that the spirit Together the entire UNESA community can work together to take UNESA one step further. UNESA is a big university whose reputation must be maintained to produce superior alumni who will take part in Golden Indonesia 2045.

Chairman of PUI Arts and Culture, Trisakti said, this activity is part of PUI Arts and Culture's commitment to preserving the wealth of Indonesian arts and culture while strengthening UNESA's reputation as an educational institution that upholds the preservation of cultural values within the framework of scientific and technological innovation.
Through this agenda, PUI Arts and Culture emphasizes that art and culture are an important foundation in enriching academic insight, building identity culture in the environment education, as well as creating space for innovation in artistic practice.

The Director of PUI Arts and Culture delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of this activity for the preservation of national culture and the institution's superior branding.
This performance is a symbol of the continuity of tradition , which is not only a legacy of the past but also cultural capital to face the future. It is hoped that lecturers will become artists who are able to innovate and create.
"The hope is that through this activity we will also help maintain the nation's noble cultural heritage, making UNESA superior in arts and culture," he hoped.
A performance involving overseas students from the BIPA (Indonesian Language) program for Foreign Speakers) features the play "Semar Mbangun" with puppeteer Yohan Susilo, and guest stars Jo Klitik and Jo Klitik.
BIPA student from China, Xiao Yao or familiarly known as Bisma, said that this was the first time he had witnessed a wayang performance. He felt so amazed by the wayang performance, in accordance with UNESA which is a campus with one of the advantages, namely Arts and Culture.
Meanwhile Lu Min Khant, a BIPA student from Myanmar, said that this event was truly extraordinary, even he was interested studying wayang art and hoping to be able to work in Indonesia.

BIPA students from abroad were also involved in this performance. They looked enthusiastic and looked stunning in traditional Indonesian clothing.
Art competition involving 274 lecturers from various faculties present traditional arts such as pantun, macapat and poetry. These arts were chosen because of their high historical value and ability to become a medium for expressing local wisdom.
This competition is not only a recreational event, but also aims to strengthen lecturers' competence in traditional arts, encouraging synergy between arts and culture and academic activities, and fostering solidarity and cultural pride among the academic community.
The winners of the art competition were assessed by a jury who were competent in their fields from lecturers, experts and professors. The jury for pantun competitions, such as the work "Manuk Emprit" by Cak Hasan, consists of Kisyani; Warih Handayaningrum; Sifak Indana; Andik Yuliyanto; and Mohammad Rokib.
Meanwhile, the Nembang Macapat jury involved Yohan Susilo; Trisakti; Latif Nur Hasan; and Danang Wijoyanto. Then, the jury read poetry involving Autar Abdillah; Welly Suryandoko; Fithriyah Inda Nur Abida; and Yoga Rifqi Azizan.
Through this activity, Unesa hopes to create a stronger synergy between arts and culture and education, as well as raising awareness in the academic community of the importance of preserving arts and culture as national identity amidst changing times.[* ]
