Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—As a campus that has excellence in the field of arts, Surabaya State University (UNESA) through the Center for Excellence and Science and Technology (PUI) Arts and Culture presents the dance work 'Sinjang Gumelar' in the courtyard of the Lidah Wetan Campus 2 Rectorate, Surabaya on Saturday, May 4 2024 evening.
This activity entitled 'UNESA Nyeni' is in the context of commemorating World Dance Day which falls on April 29 2024. Cak Hasan or Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., Chancellor of UNESA also showed his dance skills with other dancer heroes.
Cak Hasan's dance movements, which did not want to be outdone by the other dancers, invited thunderous applause from the audience and the community around the 'Rumah Para' campus. Champion'. Head of PUI Sub-Directorate for Arts and Culture, Dr. Trisakti, M.Si., said that the dance being performed was Sinjang Gumelar which is full of the philosophy of human life.
The sinjang or jarit (long batik cloth) attached to the dance is a traditional cloth that is often used in various rituals and daily activities become symbols of human life's journey.
The lecturer at the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) describes the philosophy of human life's journey on the finger. First, the baby is born starting life and the innocence of using the finger as a symbol of the beginning of a new life journey.
Second, entering the phase of life, the finger becomes an important part of various daily human activities. "The use of jarit as daily clothing reminds people of the existence of nature and the beauty of tradition which symbolizes togetherness and solidarity in society," he explained.

The PUI Arts and Culture and FBS UNESA dance team shows the jarik full of philosophical values about the development of human life.
Next, the wedding phase, Jarit becomes a symbol representing the strong bond between two humans to support and protect each other in a new life.
The journey of human life will continue to work and contribute to oneself, society and the world. Jarit is like a canvas on which humans strive in the ups and downs to create valuable works.
Humans will be aware of the cycle of life flowing like a stream, the legacy and traces of life's journey will continue to live and inspire the people around them and remind them of the value of local wisdom and cultural heritage that must be protected and preserved.
“Jarit is a symbol of purity, eternity and spirituality for humans. With jarit, we foster traditions and broaden our view of the future of dance. "Happy World Dance Day," he said.
The commemoration of World Dance Day 2024 involves the PUI Arts and Culture team and the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) UNESA. They are Trisakti, Warih Handayaningrum, Eko Wahyuni Rahayu as dance directors.
Next as dancers, namely, Trisakti, Warih Handayaningrum, Eko Wahyuni Rahayu, Retnayu Prasetyanti, Anik Juwariyah, and Enie Wahyuning plus Cak Hasan as special dancers .
The rawit consists of, I Nengah Mariasa, Subiyanto Karoso, Bambang Sugito, Jajuk Dwi Sasanadjati, Indar Sabri, Welly Suryandoko, Tomy Agung Sugito, Smile Sadana, and Syaiful Qadar Basri. []
