Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the release of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, the Chinese Consulate General in Surabaya held a special dialogue attended by a number of academics and community leaders.
This event took place at the residence of the Chinese Consul General in Surabaya and was attended by several important figures including the Chancellor of Machung, Prof. Dr. Ir. Stefanus Yufra M. Taneo, M.S., M.Sc; dean and academic from Ciputra University, Johan Hasan; Director of the Confucius Institute Unesa, Sueb; writer and researcher, Novi Basuki; as well as UNESA Mandarin Study Program lecturer, Muhammad Farhan Masrur;
The delegation was received directly by the Chinese Consul General in Surabaya, Mr. Xu Yong. The dialogue, which lasted for three hours, emphasized the relevance of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence (FPPC) combined with Dhasasila Bandung at the Asia-Africa Conference. These principles are still very relevant as universal values in peaceful living, especially in the midst of world conditions that are being hit by various conflicts.
In this dialogue, the delegates expressed their views according to their respective expertise. Rector of Machung, Prof. Dr. Ir. Stefanus Yufra M. Taneo, highlighted how FPPC is an important reference in understanding the dynamics of the Chinese economy and investment in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Director of CI Unesa, Mr. Sueb, explained the role of CI Unesa in soft diplomacy in the fields of education and culture that is consistently in line with the principles of peaceful coexistence and coexistence.
Novi Basuki emphasized that the values of the FPPC remain relevant today in creating peace, both at the domestic and international levels, stating that "it is impossible to make progress without there is peace."
Unesa Mandarin Study Program lecturer, Muhammad Farhan Masrur, spoke about stigma in society which is still influenced by old viewpoints. As a Mandarin teacher, he hopes that learning Mandarin can help open a common mindset through contextual teaching materials, student and teacher exchanges.
The Consul General of China, Mr. Xu Yong, in his speech emphasized that peaceful coexistence is the basis for creating a shared future. He also emphasized the importance of every country working together to create a better world.
For the past 70 years, the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence have been deeply embedded in the hearts of society and included in a series of important international documents.
"The five principles have been widely recognized and followed by the international community, becoming basic norms of international relations and basic principles of international law that are open, inclusive and universally applicable," he said.
The world is currently experiencing major changes that have never occurred before in 100 years. International patterns are undergoing major changes, peace and development are faced with various challenges.
Faced with the main issue "what kind of world should we build and how to build this world?" China has provided the answer of the times, namely building a community of shared destiny for mankind.
During the dialogue, China also conveyed China's attitude towards the conflict in Gaza, where the Indonesian people are the country most involved in this conflict. China supports the ceasefire and hopes that the Palestinian people can determine the fate of their own people without intervention from other parties.
The dialogue was very warm and intense, with the delegates not only conveying ideas about FPPC, but also conveying several concrete proposals to strengthen cooperation between countries in various fields.[*]
