
Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, Confucius Institute UNESA attended by heads of educational institutions, Mandarin (Laoshi) teachers from China.
Unesa. AC ID. SURABAYA—Confucius Institute (CI) Surabaya State University (UNESA) successfully held a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration as an opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the UNESA Confucius Institute and its partners in Surabaya. The event took place at the Emerald Ballroom Swissbel Manyar Surabaya. September 13 2024 was attended by heads of educational institutions, Mandarin (Laoshi) teachers from China, as well as UNESA leaders.
Mr. Yang Yuan, Director of the China Confucius Institute UNESA, opened the event by saying that this celebratory moment was very meaningful for the laoshi who were far from their families. However, at the same time, they found a new family under CI UNESA which made them feel closer to home.
Welcomes from various partners emphasized the appreciation and importance of collaboration between educational institutions in supporting teaching and dissemination Mandarin culture in Surabaya. Martadi, UNESA Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation and Information, highlighted the important role of the UNESA Confucius Institute as a learning center and inclusive partnership platform.

He emphasizes that the innovative programs implemented have created various opportunities for collaboration and real benefits for all parties involved. One of the partner delegates said that the dinner moment strengthened kinship and partnership under the coordination of the UNESA Confucius Institute, and further encouraged efforts to continue to develop collaboration opportunities in the future.
This event aims to evaluate and reflect on partnerships with a sense of kinship in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is an important tradition in the Chinese community. This celebration depicts the values of togetherness and family warmth which are reflected through moments of gathering and sharing symbolic moon cakes.
The event then closed with a friendly gathering and dinner, accompanied by artistic performances from students at teaching point partners Mandarin CI UNESA, such as Little Sun Trilingual School, Yong Chun Educational Institute, and SDI Cheng Hoo.
Mid-Autumn Festival is widely celebrated throughout Chinese communities worldwide as a symbol of unity and family, making it a great time perfect for celebrating and strengthening partnerships. In terms of partnerships, the Chinese proverb, “同舟共济,风雨同行” which means “Sailing in the same boat, facing the wind and rain together,” illustrates that a good partnership should support each other and bring benefits to all parties involved.
The partners who attended this event included leaders from Unesa's Mandarin Education Study Program, Widya Kartika University (Uwika) Surabaya, Little Sun Three Language School, Yong Chun Educational Institute, and SDI Cheng Hoo from the Cheng Hoo Islamic Education Foundation .[]
