Unesa. AC ID. SURABAYA—The Independent Campus Learning Program (MBKM), both flagship and independent, provides opportunities for students to learn and develop their competencies outside campus. This program is a valuable story for each student, both non-disabled and disabled.
There is an impressive story felt by students with disabilities at Surabaya State University (UNESA) while undergoing the MBKM internship program at SLBN Juwet Kenongo Porong, Sidoarjo. The student was named Damara Gesa from the Bachelor of Information Engineering study program.
Gesa, as he is usually called, told his experience. He started the internship program at the school in the sixth semester, namely from March 14 to June 14 2024. He then continued his internship at that place starting from July 29 to October 29 2024.
"Because he wanted to increase his knowledge and experience, I tried to do two internships. One time I did an internship on my own initiative, while the second time I did an internship on the MBKM scheme," said Gesa.
During the internship, Gesa carried out many activities ranging from administrative matters, editing questions, storing data or archiving digital-based data, to designing holiday greetings and so on.
"With this internship, I have more opportunities to improve my field skills through the activities I do at school. I become more confident, understand better and can do the work needed at school," he explained.
Apart from being able to put into practice the knowledge he gained on campus, through this internship, he also gained memorable experience, namely being able to build relationships and good relationships with teachers, parents, and children with different disabilities.
"At school I can joke with other children. The most important thing in my opinion is learning discipline and what responsibility is at work. "I hope that my experience can be an important asset for me in the future," said the class of 2021 student, hopefully. []
