Unesa. ac.id., SURABAYA—The heroines from each work unit around the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) appeared in unique costumes for the Dance Step Competition held by the UNESA Dharma Wanita PBB (DWP) on the 11th Floor of the Auditorium of the UNESA Lidah Campus 2 Rectorate Building Wetan, on Wednesday, 28 August 2024.
The activity with the theme 'UNESA for Advanced Indonesia' and in commemoration of UNESA's 60th Anniversary was attended by all levels of management and members of the UNESA DWP starting from university and faculty levels , directorate, up to study program level.
Chairman of the UNESA DWP, Endah Purnomowati Nurhasan, expressed the aim of holding this competition to change the negative view of dance that has been inherent in society. According to him, dancing has elements of art, culture and sport which of course make you happy and healthy.

"Today's activities are very different from previous years, especially in an effort to spread awareness regarding dance steps. Since this is not something bad at all, " he said.
He hopes that from this activity someone can be selected to become an athlete in the Korda or National Korda events. Apart from that, to strengthen togetherness, maintain health, and increase enthusiasm and happiness.
Rini Himawan, Chair of the DPD Indonesian Step Dance Association (ILDI) East Java, said that Step Dance is a dynamic form of sport and suitable for women of all ages. Because it is not only healthy, but also makes you fit.
The Chair of the UNESA DWP conveyed his goals and hopes behind holding the competition.
He emphasized that health and fitness are two different things. According to him, people can be healthy, but not necessarily fit. For example, women who live a modern and healthy lifestyle will look younger than women who only pay attention to health.
"I hope UNESA can be a pioneer in modernizing this healthy and fit life," he concluded.
Iis Hendro Gunawan, supervisor and founder of ILDI East Java, expressed his pride in the enthusiasm of the participants. The enthusiasm that the participants showed was extraordinary for him. Many talents can be seen, starting from being talented in sports or taking the right steps when dancing.
The participants won the best positions in various competition categories.
"UNESA "is one of ILDI's community networks, which, if its development continues professionally, such as selection in study programs and above, will help find Dansa Step athletes to compete at provincial and even national level," he said.
One of the judges, Khairuddin, explained that there were several categories being contested, namely best performance, best costume, best creative, best unique, best favorite, best hottest.
"The assessment covers the entire performance, starting from costumes, choreography, to formation. The Best Performance is the most prestigious category, because it involves assessing costumes, make up, harmony of movements and formation," he said.[ ]
