SURABAYA—Still in the 2024 Fisipol Week series, the Social Sciences Education Study Program, Surabaya State University (UNESA) held the selection of IPS Boys and Girls who entered the grand final round at the Srikandi I6 Building, Fisipol, Campus 1 Ketintang, on Wednesday, July 24 2024.
The finalists demonstrated their abilities and talents through a series of very challenging assessment categories. They also showed off their personal skills through various talents and interests, such as flash mobs, catwalks, solo vocals, speeches, and even pencak silat.
From the five finalist pairs, the three best pairs were selected: the sons and daughters of IPS 2024, namely Novan Ziya Ramadhan and Abdina Putri Qiasa; talented IPS sons and daughters, namely Muhammad Bahaudin and Lufita Nurmasari; and the favorite sons and daughters fell to Muhammad Nur Fadillah and Niyahatus Sa'adah.
Novan Ziya Ramadhan, one of the IPS students from class 22 who was selected as an IPS son, expressed his feelings after being successful in this context. "Happy, also happy, happy is the point," he said.
According to one of the judges for the 2024 IPS Boys and Girls Selection Grand Final, Ali Imron, the aim of this selection is to explore students' talents and potential in non-academic fields. "The aim of selecting these sons and daughters is to explore the talents and potential of students in non-academic fields," he said.
The Portrait and Video Exhibition of the Geography Week of the UNESA Social and Political Sciences Week was attended by students from SMAN 2 Surabaya.
This activity involving public speaking skills, good personal branding, catwalk skills, and talent display as assessment categories. The biggest challenge in this competition is mobilizing students to take part.
Those selected as IPS students for 2024 will become ambassadors or institutional representatives who represent and reflect the IPS Education study program on various occasions.
This event was also accompanied by an exhibition of geographical education photos and videos resulting from KKN research with the theme "From Landscapes to Culture: Geography's Impact on Society". Fiona Salsabila, one of the exhibition guides, explained that the posters were displayed sequentially starting from the beginning of their journey in the Landscape KKL in Yogyakarta.

The exhibition displays output from the Geography Education KKL which includes posters and videos, with themes such as the Merapi Volcanic Area, Fluvial in Wanagama , Kalisuci which has its own uniqueness, to Fluvio Marin on Baron Beach.
Apart from that, this exhibition also displays tools from the Remote Sensing Lab in Geography Education, such as land measuring tools, geological hammers and anemometers.
The aim of this exhibition is to provide an understanding to the public about the impact of geography on community culture as well as the potential for disasters that exist around the area. This exhibition is also a means for students to share their knowledge and research results with the public.
With this exhibition, it is hoped that the public will better understand the importance of paying attention to the geographical impact on daily life and the surrounding environment. Apart from that, this exhibition is also a forum for students to show their contribution to the field of geography education. [*]
